mdGreg C | Auto Exec. Bonuses: you Would Think, they Would Be Embarrassed to Take the Bonuses, In your Opinion, -? |
-Have they Earn Them? Additional Details "Earned". |
|

Executive bonuses, if any are even given, should be incentives based with proper ethical safeguards to prevent Enron. That being said, auto executives certainly have not earned their bonuses as they have failed all stakeholders in their company: their customers, employees, and shareholders.
This mistake is trickling to all parts of the economy. There are more people than auto employees depending on the companies. Parts manufacturers have to lay people off and it goes down from there. |

Nothing embarrasses the greedy - they think they deserve everything they get. That's why they usually only get what they deserve, and miss out on a lot of good things in life. |

$20 million dollars buys a lot of embarrassment. You would take it too, so would I.
Once offered, it is too late. Shareholders should consider voting against large salaries beforehand, not complaining afterwards.
.
No, they have not earned the money, but I would not mind getting megabucks for bankrupting an economy.

Actually I haven't heard of any bonuses that they have taken recently. But people think that it was sheer stupidity that put the big three in the mess it's in now. It wasn't 100% of it. They built the trucks and suv's in the last ten years because that's what was selling. Why would they stop making their biggest profit makers? Nobody seen this econominic crisis ten years ago, no one seen the major hike in gas prices back then either. They have been trying to get electric cars into production but they cannot get the price down enough to make them economically sound to produce or to sell. GM has 1 million hybrids, flex fuel and high gas mileage cars on the road right now. They need to get the factories re tooled so they can produce even more. That is one reason why they need some help from washington. The unions have taken major cuts in the last two negotiations in the last 5 years. No one outside of the midwest hears about them though so people on the west coast really don't have a clear picture of it all. They don't make 75 dollars an hour. They will be paying for their own health insurance and new hires will be paid almost half of what they would have made before the last round of negotiations and the job bank is almost a thing of the past. People seem to think that they can just renegotiate when ever they want to. It isn't that way, they have to wait for contracts to be up and there are tables full of lawyers representing both sides so no one walks away with a blank check.
I've heard people say that the unions are cutting their own throats. What would make anyone think that? They have good jobs at good pay, jobs that are not replacable, why would they want to price themselves out of a job like that? It just doesn't make any sense. |

Fear and Greed rule the world. The Financial world, at least.
These guys think they are worth it. I took a big ego to fly a private jet to go beg for money. |

Yes. But they are so used to getting "perks" that they see nothing wrong with another big bonus. Or using a corporate jet.. |

Okay, seriously, would your embarrassment stop you from taking a paycheck that you accepted when you took the job? I didn't think so.
The fact is that most people think they "deserve" the paycheck they were promised plus more if they can get it. Executives aren't any different from the the workers whose cushy over paid jobs also contributed to the mess the auto companies are in.
Don't get me wrong -- I think the auto exec salaries are obscene, but I think getting an average of $75/hour for work that is worth $25/hour is also ridiculous. |
