probably a scam
when i tell businesses that ( won't give personal data on the phone) they usually tell me that i can call their main mnumber and ask for a particular department t o talk to them.
You can ask them that, too - and if they start explaining why you can't get them by calling the main number, it is definitely a scam. |

Yes it probably was they used to call me regular when i didn't have a contract with them...call them back and select the option that says you are thinking of leaving BT and tell them you can get a better deal from SKY or another provider..they will bend over backwards to keep you, trust me |

If you call them inquiring about an offer, you may have to give information. If anyone calls YOU, you shouldn't have to give them ANY information. Period. Stick to that and you'll never get scamed. |

bt is a phone company
my grandad works for bt and he has to call people about offers all the time and he has to ask for some details to confirm its you.
but if you dont feel that its real then dont do it.
better to be safe than sorry. |

I dont think confirming a postcode is unusual...it's not like they can access your bank account through that is it? My guess is that it was BT...call them and find out! |

It's a scam because no real company would ask for personal information over the phone. They would usually ask you to meet them at their facility or they would come over your house. And because BT is a phone company, go to this link (http://www.btglobalservices.com/business/us/en/other/contact/americas.html) and see if this matches with any of the phone numbers on the phone that "BT" called from. |

Your name and address are public record anyway. Only if you're on the run should you worry about giving your address out (or got your car insured at your mother's house in the countryside - doh!).
But if she asks for your bank details, mother's maiden name, place of birth, pin number, then be concerned. |

It is obviously scam.
If your not so sure just checkout on the internet and see if other people had the same experience like you. |

If BT was calling you, they wouldn't ask you for details, just ask to know if they are speaking to the person who pays the bills. Sounds like a different company has called you, wanted you to say yes to something, and that is an over the phone contract. Contact BT ASAP. |
