BOA absolutely sucks! I used to have an account with them and they pissed me off. One time I was overdrawn by a whole penny and they had the nerve to try and hit me with a thirty dollar overdraft fee. I had to argue with the people at the bank to get it waved. On top of that any time I used either their website or their phone service to check my balance it was always wrong. It takes them a hundred years to show a debit (even though they have commercials touting how it's instant.) On top of all that they were also connected to an institution called the Bank of Credit Commerce International which was connected with terrorism and drug running. (Look it up on wikipedia.)
And their customer service sucks!
They don't call it B.O.A. for nothing. They'll strangle the life out of you. |

Definitely. Tried to pay off credit card with cashier's check that got lost in the mail. Check was lost in the mail once, delayed in the mail the second time. Automated phone system takes FOREVER to navigate. My bank faxed them three times to straighten the matter out and never even got an acknowledgement. Customer service rep was rude. Took 6 months to clear it up. |

Their stock ticker "BAC" is doing ok. Try searching for sites that review companies, or email B of A directly and say that you would like information regarding their integrity and customer satisfaction. Maybe there is something at the national level that is like the Better Business Bureau? Good luck. I bank with Citibank they are the best. |

I have 1 cc with them, the payment was due on the 9th of the month and that was a Sunday. I took the payment to the bank at 5pm on Friday the 7th. When I got my next statement there was a late fee for paying it on the 10th. It seems that if you pay on Friday after 2:30 it shows posting on Monday. SO I called and complained and they adjusted the fee off! So a small horror story but was taken care of with one call to customer service! ! ! |

It was a dark and stormy night, The wind howled through the and flung discarded litter into uninhibitted polkas through the deserted streets. A ferral cat screeched in the blackness. A lone dog howled in response.
Deep within the vaults of the downtown Detroit branch of the Bank of America something stirred....
That sort of thing? |

Signed up for one of their credit cards. They called me nearly every day trying to sell me insurance and other services. Beware, they are phone spammers. |

Not sure if it's "horror"
I use my ATM/Check card for pretty much every purchase...
OK, so I have a boat and a truck and went to the gas station to fill both up with gas, so I fill the truck up... Go pay my 65 bucks, the fill up my ex girlfriend's car too, OK go pay the 35 bucks... then go to fill my boat up and NO GO! I call the bank and they said that it's "fraud protection" to not allow the sale and that I cannot use my ATM until they work it out. That's fine and all, but what if I was in an emergency situation and needed access to my funds, I don't want to have to call BOFA and ASK them if I can make some purchases and to not put a stop on my ATM and they say it's their "policy"

Absolutely. Where to start?
1. Fraud protection. Due to their so-called fraud protection program, I have been denied purchases time and time again. In doing so, not only are you denied that purchase, but your account is "frozen" until further notice. Usually this happens when they deem that your account is exhibiting abnormal spending habits. Funds are not released for 24 hours.
2. Lack of fraud protection. Despite having my account frozen on a number of occasions with the card in my possession, BofA did not catch it when my card was actually stolen, amounting to thousands of thousads of dollars worth of fraudulent purchases. Needless to say, it was a mess sorting things out.
3. Cash money transfers are held for upwards of 3 business days for verification. CASH transfers, not check transfers -- the cash is in their hands and there is nothing to verify/wait to clear!
I've banked at a number of different institutions and have found that every single one of them has flaws, which is unfortunate because they're dealing with your money. No matter where you bank, there are certain fees here and there than seem unavoidable.
Best of luck choosing a bank. |
