these days it is, and i think that is wrong. learn to speak up on important thing that are business related. In my office they will bash the hell out of someone and that is not nessary to join in. |

It may or may not precipitate a crisis. Being a 'quiet guy' may either mean that you are not an outgoing type of person which really is a death sentence when you deal with the human relations department, yet it may label you as the 'serious guy' who gets the work done fast, a handy trait when you work with banks. But don't be afraid to be labeled! In the contrary, treat it as a challenge! If they think you're just weak, prove them wrong! Good luck on your climb to the corporate ladder! |

For the position of management, yes. I too am or could say was a "quiet guy", but you can use it to your advantage. "Quiet" people listen better! Gage what everyone else says and after several have talked provide a compromise. Or even build upon an idea. Provide thoughtfull feedback. Higher management does need office relationships, but you do have time. By being productive in listening eventually your boss will understand you do have important skills. Currently I am second in command at a business with over 150 people! Try to be an asset to the company! |

I would imagine that having that label in that setting could be tough because of all the politics that I imagine that can go on in an office. My not so open socialness makes me feel kinda glad I didn't make it big enough in school to have a big suit wearing corporate job. |

Not a death sentence but not the road to the corner office in many corporations since being more out-going is a valued trait. So I would say it depends on your job and your career goals. You can make a big change in impressions just by asking one question per meeting. By being the quiet guy now you have a pretty low bar for changing that. And since you are quiet, you probably are thoughtful, so can ask good questions: go into meeting prepared, listen and ask one question per meeting - or even just clarify what is being said when it seems like there is confusion. |

Not at all. It is the result that should speak for you for the contribution you are making to the organisation and also that you are a team man.
