Boycott Hersheys?
would yall like to join me and others in a boycott of Hershey's products? they, in their corporate narrow minds, are closing their fourth plant in America, just in the last 3 months, and moving operations overseas. when will the American people wake up and tell these companies "we're not gonna take it?" is it going to take all of our jobs being moved overseas? as more and more companies move operations overseas, this is slowly becoming a reality!
hell, i am at an age that in 20 years it wont matter to me as i will most likely be dead, but i am thinking about my grandkids and their future employment opportunities. what will be left for them?

I have been railing against this trend for the past few years.

It is not just Hershey.

Ford, GM, Chrysler barely buy from American suppliers anymore, it is getting to the point that 90% of the parts that go into "American made" cars are coming from Asia.

Pfizer, Merck and other pharms are setting up plants in China

MascoTech, Dell, HewlittPackard, Microsoft, Apple and other tech companies, have moved support to India and Bangalore and the components are all manufactured in China.

Even our big accounting firms and insurance companies are farming out huge percentages of the work to India & China.

As you can see by the above respondents, Americans DON'T CARE.

For the loss of every good/great paying American job, you can add 3-5 more jobs that go away. Jobs like suppliers, grocery store clerks, insurance agents, waiters, dentists and the like.

We have off-shored our childrens future in the name of cheap socks from China.

The folly of our ways is becoming apparent, but the idiots in Washington and the CEOs making 30 million a year don't care. Yet.

The "downturn in our economy" is not the "sub prime mortgage" crisis. It is the LOSS OF JOBS.

Until the federal and state governments start reporting ACTUAL unemployment and INFLATION figures, no one will notice or care.

The only "good thing" is that many of the idiots above might begin to see the error of their ways when they lose THEIR jobs.

And it won't be much longer before that happens.

I agree alot of companies are doing that because the labour is cheaper over in those countries and I also agree that not buying thier product wold send a strong message, that is if enough people do it, it's a good idea alot of car companies and thngs should be boycotted too,

I wish you good luck in this venture. I live in the UK so Hersheys are not a common brand over here but if I lived in the USA I would certainly join your campaign.

I do not buy Hershey's chocolate anyway. There are much better chocolate products made. I know it's painful for everyone all over the world, but the whole world is moving toward a global economy. It seems to me that it is inevitable and there really is nothing to do about it.
The one thing we can do is not support the big global business and try to keep things at a local level. It would be pretty difficult because of the inundation of the 'big box' stores, corporate restaurant chains that range from McDonalds's to Olive Garden & Pizza Hut. How many people are really interested in eating in locally owned restaurants & diners, shopping in locally owned stores, and eating locally grown food?
The huge agri-businesses are responsible for the E. coli out breaks. You do not see this happening in smaller operations. All these corporate operations want is to get a product out to the consumer as fast as possible and to hell with safety precautions.
If I sound like I do not have faith in the human race, I probably am pretty close to it , though there is still a tiny glimmer of hope.

Nope. Like any other company, Hersheys must try to get its products to customers at the lowest possible cost, and if that means moving works elsewhere, that's what they must do. There is a lot of competition in the chocolate business. Markets are changing more rapidly nowadays than ever before, and it is no longer reasonable to expect that you will have a career with one firm, or even doing one thing: you must be prepared to change with the times, and deliver a service that someone is willing to pay for. There is not much demand these days for people who make buggy whips.

Welll...there will always be fast food, I guess. Sorry, I like Hershey's too much to boycott them. Who will help my PMS if I can't have Hershey's?

DON'T BOYCOTT HERSHEY'S
they don't deserve it

I thought that you Americans worshiped free enterprise. You can't have it both ways. If you want a free market then go ahead and have a free market, but stop complaining when companies act freely.

I'm so tired of people bad-mouthing socialism all the time and then whining when you don't get things your way. I like capitalism but I also think that it needs controls but like I said, you can't have your chocolate bar and eat it too.
