Doug | British Gas, how to deal with their unparalleled incompetence? |
For nearly 2 yrs now, they have been sending, via debt collectors, a letter to my housemate regarding a bill for the last 2 months of our tenancy in a property. We told them to cancel the service, they said ok, then didn't bother. The meter was broken, and as such they're claiming we owe them £1600. For 2 MONTHS! A crematorium won't use that much gas! Every time they contact her, she speaks to them, they say they'll sort it, they don't so she contacts them again. They then say it's fine, don't worry etc etc. and a few months later it starts over again. What can we do?? (I know what I'd like to do but that involves explosives and is highly illegal).
As an after note I urge any British Gas customers to switch providers immediately, even if you haven't had any problems it's only a matter of time, and this is the only way we can drive them out of our society, which is what they deserve. Additional Details Dels, I agree, I have done all that, no one I know is with british gas now, it takes so little effort; we just need to motivate people to pick up the phone. |

there is a watchdog that you can report them to and they take the case off your hands and then deal with it for you i had a prepay meter and they sent us bills after we left the house for £800 we were on pay as you use meter so how did we owe them money went on and bailiffs came out so we rang energy watch and they sorted it out then energy watch told us the meter was set to collect a debt that the previous owners of the house had ran up so we got reimbursed with £1300 from them |

they are totally unbelievable they have been sending me letters telling me they are going to remove my locks and cut my gas off dont no how many times i have told them it is not my account no and i pay by direct debit so then they said i must have 2 meters in my house (not very nessersary for a 3 bed house) they are driving me mad and when you ring it takes about 15 mins to get to the right department |

I have just switched from b.gas to n power as i was sick of them cocking up on my bill.
My brother in law has not lived in his house for the last 9 months and got a bill for £1000, no heating was on and no squaters...
I suggest you go to the citizens advise or better still look in the yellow pages at the front were all the helplines are for companies E.G TELEPHONE IS OFCOM, not sure what the body is for gas, do not back down, better still go to bbc watchdog. |

Do what I did with Powergen when they did a similar thing to me.
Get the name of the highest numpty on the manure heap and threaten them with a cease and desist order on the grounds of unwarranted harassment.
This letter must be sent 'signed for delivery' it imports a sense of urgency to them.
State your case and complaint clearly and precisely and give them 30 days to remedy or prosecute you.
You will suddenly find that you are talking to a person higher up in the dunghill, who wants to offer sincere apologies.
Treat this Dipstick like the cretins he represents and that should be the end of it.
If they do persist in their corporate stupidity, then go to a solicitor and do exactly what i've just said.
Your solicitor will seek punitive damages and your costs, don't be afraid of this, nine out of ten, they will fold before you even get to this point.
These people need to be reminded who the customer is now and then.

Put the complaint in writing and send it to the Head Office by registered mail - list everything that has happened in chronological order and demand an apology and compensation for all the harassment, embarrassment, stress. |

Simple - Tell them you've made an appointment with your solicitor as you are getting no satisfaction from them, and have given them sufficient time to sort the problem.
No company wants bad publicity. This should push them into action. |
