I don't think they harm race relations, but don't help much either. This rule is dumb! If you wear black clothing, what comes next- you have to refer to thems as "darkest of dark colored pants"? |

What do you call coffe with milk.....White?
It has gone too far, these extremes are ridiculous and I feel that it insults Black persons more, by making out they are easily offended.
In NZ where I grew up "whites "were called Pakihas by the Maoris and Maoris were called the Maoriora by the whites. Who cares what name you put on it! Its what we are isn't it! |

I'm black and I would think any person was crazy if they asked for coffee without milk as reference to black coffee. I'd truly ask, well would you like non dairy cream? That is taking political correctness too far! I think that the employees there should be appalled and non compliant to what is asked of them. Surely the black people are raising sand over the measurement of offensiveness. Yes it is harming race relations in that environment. |

It's just a description of the colour of the coffee, does that mean when i go to buy a car i can't ask "have you got it in black" , do i have to ask for an "off white" one?

Hi > I totally agree that some systems have gone nuts over colour of skin issues. I am freinds with folks regardless of race / colour.
I ask for a black coffee, as I simply prefer it that way.
If someone asks for a white coffee, of course I am not offended in any way. It would be churlish and small of mind to do either.
I wore a black shirt to a freind's funeral yasterday, and was thanked for wearing black.
I also went to another freinds' wedding earlier this year, wearing totally white, what does it matter ?
Some folks seem to have the totally wrong idea.
Therefore I agree - it can be daft.

Oh please!!!!!!!!!!!!! This really has gone too far. What are they going to say if you need a black marker? "Can I please have a marker that isn't white"? Get a grip!!!! |

Of course it is ridiculous although most people ask for coffee and sides, i.e., sugar or cream are not served with it. You may ask for milk or cream at that time.
This is a gnat on the butt of race relationships but going along with it is no big whoop. Apparently, someone of color has been offended by an extremely thin skin and HR is taking the easy way out for them. Not a reasonable decision but consistent with most bureaucracies. |
