im getting frustrated lately ,I live in the uk and im not at all racist but have had to make calls to my bank and a few catalogue companies
every time i ring any one of them someone with a foreign accent answers and they cannot understand what i am saying , i end up repeating myself or putting the phone down, this even applies to hsbc bank which i would of expected english people who understand english to answer
the calls are to 08 numbers (not freephone) not international so what is going on , do english people no longer answer phone as banks or catalogue companies
i bet if someone ripped them off they would get an english speaking person to make the calls then
again i am not racist, when i say english i mean anyone who lives in the uk and speaks english fluently |

I don't think a British person would work at a call center/customer service center for 3 pounds/hour in UK, but foreign employees would gladly do so. If the banks and other companies hired English speaking native employees, you would see the service charges and annual fees skyrocket! And no one would like that either.
So I would say put up with this and expect that this will change. Since competition is growing rapidly, they will outsource people with better speaking skills eventually. |

A lot of them are sourced from abroad, there are a lot of call centres in India. I understand your frustration, its not their fault or ours, just corporate greed trying to save money. I called one the other day, a free call admittedly, and the chap asked me how the weather was here - I said it was cold and rainy, and he said that in DELHI it was hot and humid! |

its because they are not given proper training to handle all kinds of customers or calls thoroughly before handling live customers. its the fault of the system.and they need to train the employees better.
its the way economy works and that's the reason you get cheaper deals from banks etc. If they were to have call centers in UK, then you would be the one shelling out extra cash on your mortgage or credit cards or whatever. If you want cheapest deals as well, then why complain so much? You cant have your cake and eat it too.
No offence meant. its just my point of view! |

its because they will accept minimum wage
they really piss me off if they cant understand you or you them then they should not work in a call center it took me 5 calls to the natwest to get someone who understood me its crazy |

The 08 prefix doesn't mean they're based in the UK, they're still routed to overseas call centres. |

you can choose to do business with companies that use UK call centres. The call centre industry in the UK is huge so it should not be that difficult.
Nat West is main bank, but also Co-Op and all Scottish banks (unsure of others) |

Your call is automatically redirected to Bombay, Madras or Karachi where English is the operatives 2nd language.
For people with sufficient hearing loss to require the use of a hearing aid strong accents on the phone whether Indian or Scottish can be particularly difficult. |
