Can Rent-A-Center track you down if you move to another state? And if so how?
I swear it's not me. I've recently changed my phone-number and since then Rent-A-Center calls me three times a day even though I explain to them that I'm not a customer of theirs. I imagine their customer escaped with no address but how do I expalin that to them?

By pulling your credit. You gave them permission to do that when you signed your contract. You would have to drop completely out of society to hide. No applications of any kind. No bank, no PO Box, no rental applications, no credit cards, no job applications...you get the picture.

Give the items back. It's called Rent-A-Center, not Steal-Our-Stuff. And the Brainiac who said sue them in court for harrassment gave you the worst advice possible. RAC would be happy to see you in court. What do you think a judge is going to do in this situation...?

Hey, CE. I've been through that before, with a cable company. At first you'd think that they'd be able to access the customer's credit information in order to verify his'her whereabouts. Guess what? Luckily for him/her, and unlucky for you, they can't. They, most likely, got your number from a public phone directory. There is not much you can do because they will NEVER believe that the person they seek isn't you. You can, however, tell them that (1)you are not the person that they are looking for, (2) the person they seek does not live at this address, (3) do not call this number again and (4) any more calls on this matter will be viewed as harassment and will reported as such. It doesn't matter that they will still believe that you are ducking an unpaid bill because they do not have your ss# or credit card #. It is very difficult to find a judge that will hear their case so a case against you, even if they threaten you with legal action, will never make it to court. Harassment by businesses or collection agencies is viewed as a crime these days and when warned, most of these guys will back off.

Next time they call, get all the information, especially who it is who is calling. Find out exactly what city and state they are calling from. You will then be able to lodge a legitimate nuisance complaint against them and if they persist you then can claim damages and sue.

Dude, just return their items. You'll avoid a lot of conflict. Don't run from people who have given you credit. Its worse for you in the long run!
