Can Wal-Mart Help To Lower The Food Price We Facing Now?
Is it possible that at this moment, we need Wal-mart more than ever?

We need Walmart more than ever? Walmart is evil. We all have to shop there because they have succeeded in closing everything else down.

EDIT**
When I said nothing else, I wasn't talking grocery stores... I don't know of anyone personally that buys groceries at the Walmart but some people do, I have seen them. I was talking other retail stores. We have the high end stores, but they don't always sale the things you need. We have a K-mart that has went bankrupt and usually doesn't have much and we are getting a target in the near future. I'm not such a fan of target, I don't understand the appeal, but I will have a choice then. All of our unique smaller stores have closed because they couldn't compete. That is what business is all about, but I miss the opportunity to make a decision about where I shop and spend my money. Now for certain things I can either drive an hour out of my way or go to Walmart because I don't have a choice for that particular item.

Rachel
I see where you are coming from, but it is important to also look at the other side of the picture. If Wal-Mart is able to sell things below the market price, it appears that it helps the consumer because we pay less for things we need. However, in order for Wal-Mart to sell things so cheaply, they have to purchase them at below-market value from their suppliers. Suppliers will have to take a loss on the things they sell to Wal-Mart then; so in order to avoid going out of business, they have to lay off workers. That is horrible for the economy and especially for those people losing their jobs (or companies going out of business because they can't meet Wal-mart's demands and lose too much money).
So, no...when goods are sold below market value, it will not help the economy; it just starts a vicious cycle of destruction.

I don't understand how Wal-Mart could be that helpful. Yes, they appeal to an unbelievably large market, but they can't control the price. I think the extremely high demand for ethanol and corn products has been driving prices through the roof. Corn is a staple in the diets for most animals meant for food, and since so much corn is going into energy, the prices are high for ranchers and they, in turn, must increase their prices. Similarly, wheat has become more and more expensive and even the local pizza parlor has been forced to raise their prices. Wal-Mart's large volume of sales will allow them to cut extremely close to the cost of raw materials, but it is essentially the cost of food products from farmers and ranchers that is driving this increase.

Grand Champion!
OMG tan! Wal-mart is evil but you MUST shop there? So, I'm guessing you don't have ANYTHING else in your area, no Kroger, no Target, no Albertson's?

Seems funny, because I live in an area with a Wal-Mart, and the number of OTHER stores around is thriving! There is a Target across the road, there is a Kroger, and Albertson's, and a Harvest Foods-

If you really think Wal-Mart is evil, then you don't HAVE to shop there- there are alternatives.

ProArtWork
I won't be surprise those that were criticizing Walmart have no choice to shop there because of the economy and oil price.
