Normally reimbursment only occurs when you are driving between the two companies. If you leave from home your initial travel to the job is on you as well as the trip home. While this is pretty much the IRS rule, companies are free to compensate additionally or when the sister company is in another city or more than 50 miles from your home.

Unfortunately, yes they can make you, however, if you approach the situation in a matter of fact, yet nice way, you can ask your company to reimburse you, and most of the time they will. If they dont, well then, you basically have to deal with it because it is your job.
