If I started a company who's main objective was the development of products primarily for women and the majority of employees were women, would that go against the equal opportunities act? This is a serious question. |

Providing you werent actively advertising for women only and you werent refusing someone on the grounds that they were male I don't see the problem.
When employing someone you look for the person who is best able to do the job. If the job requires product knowledge then chances are women will meet this criteria more than men so you would end up with a predominantly female workforce anyway. |

Your only issue should be selecting staff who are best for the job . If you selected a high proportion of women and can demonstrate in your selection process that you did indeed match the successful candidates against your criteria that is good enough,

Hire people based on their qualifications- not their gender. SOme men are very in touch with what women want. People vary- and the workforce should as well. |

You couldn't make gender a requirement of employment. For example, you couldn't state that you only hire women any more than you could state you only hire whites.
Given the way equal opportunity cases get settled having a majority, gender, race, age or religion, you start out behind. It is not illegal, however. |

there is nothing wrong with that as long as the objective is to hire the right people for the job basing on their qualifications and attitude towards the post they are applying for. most cops are men and most nurses are women. but this doesnt stop the other gender from venturing into the opposite gender's world. cause the truth of the matter is, a human being is capable of anything as long as he/she puts his/her mind into it. come to think of it, having male employees for a company that you are starting has its advantages. as a woman, i get a man's opinion about just anything, from the right dress to the right cosmetics. and by the way, the men i asked are very straight. |
