Can my boss legally not give me holiday pay (time n a half) because of the recession. I work at a hotel in IL.?
So I came into work today and seen a memo saying "due to the recession no holiday pay will be paid... even if u work" meaning if i work on christmas day... b4 id get paid either double time or time and a half (depending which hotel i worked at) but not i just get my normal pay for working holidays.....
In many states, including Illinois, holiday pay is not legally required- it's a benefit provided by the company as an incentive for people to work on days when no one wants to.
As long as they aren't offering anyone holiday pay (they aren't allowed to give it to some and not others), then it's perfectly legal.

Your employer isn't required to pay you extra for holiday pay. Time and a half is required for hours over 40 in a week.
