Yes, but your going to have to wait a long time for 20K we were at 14K about a year ago. Today at about 8.3K could be 20 years.

probably not in the next 10-15 yrs. You can't compare the two indexes - they are calculated totally differently, and China's 20,000 probably is not the same as US 20,000 anyway

There is no upper limit to the DOW.
Also, 20K is more possible than previously stated. Consider that going from 100 to 110 is a 10% increase while the same increase will take 8000 to 8800. In other words, the numeric increase is exponential.
So the DOW was 14K at one time. A 50% decrease takes it to 7K while a 50% increase takes it to 21K.
It's a lot like gasoline prices: Adding 10% to a $1/gallon makes it $1.10/gal. That may not seem like much, but adding the same amount to $2.50/gal makes it jump to $2.75/gal. A 10 cent rise Vs. a 25 cent rise - but both are the same percentage.
The DOW also rides along with inflation. So a 4% inflation rate also gives 4% upward pressure on the DOW. Of course, there's a million other factors too.
