A market has food products: meat, cheese, dairy, bread, vegetables, canned and dried goods, sanitary products.
A supermarket would add to that: household cleansers, dog and cat grooming and bedding, household hardware, clothing, seasonal goods such as pool supplies in summer or road salt in winter, a deli counter selling hot prepared foods as well as cold freshly sliced meats. |

There is nothing as such to say that market is bigger or smaller then supermarket. both things are different in technical terms and are not comparable, Go for their meanings and you will know both of them.
Market: it is an arrangement where exhchange of goods and services takes place. It can be a shop or it can be New York Stock Exchange. NYSE is a market where stocks are traded. Schools are markets in the sense that teacher provides services for the sake of money and students pay money in order to recieve services of the teacher. Markets can be small and can be very big. Today the biggest market is the Internet where you can buy and sell while buyer and sellers are sitting far apart.
Supermarket: super market got it name just because it has almost everthing that one expect to get from city markets. It is a collection of small markets. |
