Haha! I've noticed that too, I think maybe the charity money is merely lining their pockets nowadays. To be honest that's one of the reasons why my wife and I donate things in person to the homeless etc etc etc so we KNOW it's going to them.

I think you will find that it's the companies which collect bags on behalf of charities which have the Merc vans. The collection bags must state how much of the proceeds from the sale of the clothing goes to the charity, if it doesn't, it is unlawful. You then make your decision as to whether to support such an appeal or whether to give your old clothes direct to a charity shop. All charities accounts are available on the Charity Commission website and you can make your own judgement as to whether or not their fundraising costs are too high. |

Hi We have a lot of these where we live, most of the time the leaflets say that the clothes are sold in 3rd world countries at a small affordable price. These companies are not charites, the point of charity is to donate items to them not sell them. These are businesses taking peoples old clothing for free and making a profit from 3rd world countries, its all wrong |
