BMW: The technology to save energy in their cars is amazing. For example, if you brake, the energy from the reduced speed is not wasted, but used to recharge your car-battery. Every time you stop and put the gear into neutral, the engine cuts of automatically. When you push the clutch to switch back to 1st, the engine starts again. It's called BMW Efficient Dynamics, look it up in wikipedia ;)
EasyJet is a Brittish airline company that gives you the possibility to compensate the CO2 emissions of your flight by donating money which is used to plant trees. Trees convert CO2 into oxygen. Brilliant (and even quite cheap as well…)
IBM: is just releasing a new chip design for datacenters. Those get pretty hot and need to be cooled. Nowadays this is done by airconditioning. The new IBM chips will have an integrated water cooling system. Water flows through the chips and cools them off. The warm water can then be used for household use… Like central heating or… making tea, idk :p |
