Cool news, a family owned company in IL sold the company, but gave ALL of their employees surprise bonuses...?
For the end of the year, based on years of service...some got 35, 000.00 or so and most all of them will keep their jobs...
How refreshing to see a company actually value its employees again and share some of the profits, instead of treating them as disposable commodities...it would be wonderful if some of these multimillion dollar corporations would take notice, wouldn't it?

Will your company give you anything above your check this year? If yes, what?

Well, realize that a large corporation is almost always publicly owned, meaning they really can't do something like that because their stockholders would want the profits for themselves. And before we all think of stockholders as overly wealthy people, consider that many of them are those of us with retirement funds and savings, which may hold stock in those corporations.

I'm not defending the corporations. just saying it's not feasible for them to do something like that.

I thought it was a wonderful thing to do, but note that the article said the family who owned it first made sure they had enough themselves to be alright. Nothing wrong with that, but if you own 100 shares of stock in a company with 100 million shares total, then you only own a millionth of the company and your equal share would only be $6. no way would you give even half that to the employees. Pity, but that's the way it is.

(FWIW, I strongly feel that one thing this country really needs is more privately-owned companies. However, it's hard to get enough money to do big things without selling shares or giving ownership to VCs. And then the private companies still have to compete price-wise with companies like Wal-mart and McDonald's, which can purchase things for much less due to huge economies of scale. Not to mention their lobbying power, often used to wipe competition out - Microsoft and major farming companies being examples.)

Will I get anything this year? No, I'm unemployed. The people still at my former company will not be getting the annual holiday party this year, though they might get another $5 hokey "gift" like a tote bag that has the company name and logo on it. Can you say advertising gimmick? Top management, of course, will get bonuses exceeding the annual salaries of most employees.

We have a pretty good bonus program but in our case it is an earned bonus and you will know at the end of the quarter whether or not you qualified because we are Managers and calculate profit and loss on a daily basis then compare against last year and project daily for monthly and quarterly results.

This year it is an absolute challenge to achieve your goal... and only those that are actively trying new avenues and keep a close eye on sales and opportunities will make it.

We are not a large Company but an extremely profitable one... they invested in getting the best managers for this field and we are extremely competitive and have free rein over our stores.

The owner of the company does not want people that can't think for themselves and always say yes to everything he suggests.
While we respect him we also know that we can critique him if we do not agree. This business plan has worked for us and we may have a lot more responsibilities than our peers in other companies but at the same time we can implement our own ideas and act first, ask permission later is a standard practice.

In these times it is absolutely necessary that Managers act as if they were store owners.

I don't agree with free bonuses........it should be tied to earrings, value and perhaps seniority.........if its free this year.......next year we won't have to work as hard and we can still expect the same bonus.......right???????
