James R. Reed, II | Costco membership; worth it? |

Not great if you are a single person since one roll of plastic wrap will literally last you 10 years (!) and do you need 25 rolls of toilet paper. But even then, all you have to do is buy one big item per year- tires, a PC, etc. and the membership is paid for.
But as others said, watch the real price per unit. I have found better bargains at Target without buying as much. Manufacturers often do custom offers for Costco and so one bottle of wipes from Clorox at Costco may have less than at Target so they can give you two or 3 bottles wrapped together.
Their snack bar is pretty good, too. Cheap food and drinks to refuel while you are out.
The other great thing is that they unconditionally guarantee your satisfaction. So go shop there and if you don't like it, or use it enough, cancel your membership and get your money back. It's a very reputable company. |

We have been members since the 1980's when they were called Price Club. We love Costco. It is our favorite store. They have great buys in almost everything. And their quality is superb. We go down around lunch time and get a jumbo kosher polish dog and a medium (which is large)soda for $1.50. Yummy! They have fresh mustard, ketsup, relish and onions to put on your dog too. We are price comparers and invariably we find their prices superior to other retail stores. Not always though! |

Sure, I like 'em. They have good deals on some things. Be sure to check the pricing - sometimes local grocers have better prices.
Also, you do end up with some pretty large quantities of items, so have some storage space ready.
All-in-all, it's worth the cost. |

I love Costco! I think the membership I have was about $40 for the year...It lets us have two cards, so I gave one to my daughter, and split the expense.
Just this weekend we were there, and picked up quite a few things at excellent prices! For example, a 20-pack of Brawny paper towels for under $13...I also recently got a 50 pound bag of cat litter for less than the price of the 24 pound box at the grocery store.
Unquestionably, I've saved enough money in three visits to cover the expense of my membership.
You need to be careful to only purchase things that you'll really use, and have space to store. It's fairly easy to say, "Wow, that's a great price", and find yourself back at home saying "Where on earth will I ever store six gallons of vodka?"...Also, the per-unit prices on everything are great, but they often come in multipacks, so when you get to the checkstand, you might have a bit of sticker shock! |

Great deal, great savings. However, you have to buy in larger quantity (typically) than you'll be used to. But, I have saved a fortune shopping there. There's also additional discount advantages to membership. Check it out: http://www.costco.com/Images/Content/Misc/PDF/WelcomeBrochure05.pdf |
