Dicky Snapples Hides Apples | Could Richard Branson walk into a Virgin Megastore and help himself to stuff? |
Additional Details I mean just take it without paying. What I'm trying to ascertain is whether he actually directly owns the goods in the shop.

Know How
No becuase he sold the Virgin shops off years back. I think he just mainly has the trains and planes business now. |

Donna M
You mean, not everyone can do that?
Whoops.
(Yes, I think he probably can). |

Justin
Technically no, because he doesn't personally own all the merchandise in the store.
Effectively yes, because if anything bad becomes of it, he could see to firing those who were working at the time. That fact would stop any of the employees from doing anything about it.
This is the crux of the power debate predicated on the fact that fame and fortune can and does have an effect on how the law, in the end effects a given person - can you really have equal say without equal power? Can you really have equal power without equal wealth? Can you really have equal justice without equal wealth? Can you really achieve the end effect of the law without equal enforcement of the law?
Not making a statement, merely asking a question - I don't know what's better or worse but I do know that equality and disparity both have negative sides to them.
My opinion is that wealth, fame and power are fine as long as its not so extreme that the negative forces against the rest of society start to show themselves - that's what leads to revolutions and wars. |

No, it would cause a discrepancy the next time there is a stock take. Obviously, he would get the goods free, but they would have to be accounted for. |

Phil ZZ
Definitely not - the stock in the shop will be owned by the company - whatever it is called - Virgin Megastores Ltd or whatever. Being a shareholder - even the only shareholder - in a company does not mean that you personally own the assets, just as it doesn't mean that the business' takings count as your personal income.
If he were to take stock without being required to pay for it it would be treated as benefit-in-kind, taxed by the Inland Revenue, and accounted for as a sale by the business. |

yes and get nicked for stealing |

BECKS
Can't think who would stop him |

dukeofmud
No he couldn't as Virgin sold Virgin Megastores to a subsiduary a while ago. Thus Richard Branson is no longer the owner or even majority shareholder in the group that now owns Virgin Megastores |

tommy
i expect he could......but probably wouldn't want to set that example.
if he was to pay hmv would be cheaper anyway!! |

Gflex
I doubt very much anyone would argue with him if he did, but i doubt he needs to do his own shopping! |
