Try an imagine 80 to 90 years ago when the Ford motor company was the dominant player in the automobile industry it would have been considered very very very unlikely they would go bankrupt. Present time they have been in serious financial trouble.
The computer and IT industries are still in their infancy stage and considering the Chinese and Indian economies are set to become global economic powerhouses who knows what might happen. I think its unlikely now but in the future its a possibility. |

It is possible for any business to go bankrupt, whatever their size or assets.
Example: Gerald Ratner called one of his products "crap" in the public domain. The company lost millions, just because of that.
The biggest danger is complacency. |

no because they have too much money to go bankrupt unless they spend loads of money on a new invention and the invention isnt a success and they lose the money they put into the invention but they will still have loads of money |

When I launch my O/S - as yet un-named but for arguments sake lets call it V.O.E.P which stands for Voice Over Everything Protocol, then yes Microsoft will become bankrupt because nobody will want to use them. What cash reserves they have will be squandered on wild and ambitious copy-cat systems which will inevitably fail and bring the remnants of the company to a crushing halt.
My V.O.E.P works basically on the premise that it hears each individual in a unique and non-corruptable way so that any person can 'talk' to their computer and it will understand, compute, organise and deliver exactly what the user has requested, without that user having any I.T. experience whatsoever.
Much like you see on Star Trek, all a user has to do is say 'computer, wake me up at 8.34, make sure my shower is running and that my tea is brewing etc etc. |

Softpedia's Tech & Science Editor seems to think it's possible. I was reading an article dealing with this exact question there the other day.
Quote:
"The idea is rather simple. What would happen if Microsoft failed with all of its products, or almost all of them, that are scheduled for release and in a few years, companies like Google, Apple, or IBM would invade the increasingly lower market share of the Redmond giant until the company went into bankruptcy?
Yes, I know. It’s difficult for such a large corporation to go bankrupt. Difficult, but not impossible."
