Could outsourcing backfire on foreign businesses and investors in countries like China, etc?
I fully understand the risk vs return principle---but how long can we continue to do business with government that could potentially turn "against" foreign investors? The closest example I have is with Cuba's revolution and their nationalization of Texaco's refineries after Fidel took total power. From a purely business standpoint, such companies like Texaco lost big from such a loss-how can we protect our investments in China--if China decides it's in their best interest to nationalize American or English, etc owned properties and plants? Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Of course it will eventually backfire. Let's look at a few facts.

1. China is a communist country that does not even value the health and well being of their own citizens, let alone ours.

2. When the Berlin wall fell, China stated they would "destroy America without a shot being fired".

3. Once their economy really gets up and running (it is almost there now, and it could already be there as they do not release the real facts about their economy to the foreign press), they won't need us anymore.

4. They have built their empire on our dollars, then they built their financial markets on our debt, now they have most of our jobs, most of our manufacturing equipment and access to all our patents and "corporate secrets".

Within 5 years, 10 at the most, they are going to slam their borders shut. They will keep all the idiotic foreign companies equipment and the know how and will continue producing the products and flooding the world with their crap.

And as we will be sliding ever faster towards third world classification, we will have no choice but to buy it.

Good luck to us all.

Do not worry about this kind of risk too much! pay more attention to your business operations in China.

Policies are not easy to be changed so much, goverment will not take your company/business rashly. it is not a play. stablility is important for every country.

I think the trade with China is too huge and complex to risk nationalization, and the Chinease know this. The global economy is fragile, and to throw up barriers and overturn the ownership structure could throw everything into turmoil. It would hurt them as much as us.

But there are other risks. For one, China's intelectual property law is not strong and not enforced well. Software, movies and music are all pirated there, and patent enforcement is weak. It makes sense from the China perspective, most IP comes from US so they have little to gain by enforcing it.

Well my uncle is VP of Sales for his international chemical company and they do that alot...The problem they're having with China is environmental issues. They dont have the EPA over there or regulations against businesses putting out harsh waste. But my uncles company is one of the few putting an effort to stay as green as possible. But yes most companies in china are after the big profit. The problem will come when there market is over stocked and then companies may return here. America's biggest economic issue right now is real estate....Banks gave huge loans to people who couldnt afford it and now people have been paying for their house for 10 years but never realized that none of the money they paid went to the principal. So banks evict them and they lose money. Real Estate is a mess
