This happened 4 years ago, maybe more, and if Walmart hadnt done it, somebody else would have done by now. All the smaller supermarket chains are prime targets for the big boys now, as they all seek to gain the larger market share.It is obvious that quality and prices have improved under Walmart, as well as customer service, which is good for the consumer, but not so good for the small business shopkeepers, as they become less and less visual as time goes by.It is also harder for some suppliers, as the supermarkets put the squeeze on them, particularly produce farmers who have seen there profit margins cut to the bone by aggressive buying on the part of the supermarkets, whos profits seem to increase year in and out. |

Hi James...this is for your degree coursework right? Look at social costs and risks, economies of scale, multiplier effects etc.... and try looking on the Walmart site for corporate information... look at effects on price, competition... im off out :-) Hope you do well |
