Its never over-promising, going the extra mile, never under-delivering, turning a complainer into a happy customer, and the best you can hope for is that they tell someone just how good their experience was.
Statistics show that an unhappy customer will tell quite a lot of people, whereas a happy customer will tell fewer. The odds are stacked against but it is cheaper for a company to look after existing customers than it is to find new ones.

good customer service is being attentive to the customer, greeting them etc.
Now great customer service is going above and beyond where that customer will come back again and again, example remembering a customers name, what they bought before, remembering conversations. Going through many loops for the customer even thought maybe bending some of the companies rules.
