Did you know THIS about Wal-Mart??
My boyfriend works at Wal Mart as an overnight stocker (just doing it until hes done with Aviation school). Did you know that if they open a case of any food product...water, hot chocolate, canned goods, whatever, and the boxes or cases are dented and banged up, THEY THROW THE ENTIRE THING AWAY.

He said they go through hundreds of boxes of hot chocolate a month, tons of bottled water...and nothing gets done about it.
The store manager said "If we don't throw them away, we can't log them and Wal Mart doesn't get paid for the damages."

What about the millions of people who have no food! Or water!! Dont you think they would like that!!

Does anyone know what could be done about this selfish, wasteful practice??
Makes me sick!!

Unfortunately it ties into the American mentality of wasting and consuming. We waste what we can't consume...Simple and to the point. Yes something should be done...That stuff they dump should be repacked and sent to the 99c store. PEACE!

Oprah did a show last week about Freegans -- people who live off of the stuff that stores throw away. A reporter followed the group while they went through dumpsters and found all kinds of perfectly edible food. So it's not just Walmart -- it's a widespread practice. And it is a real shame. I think another thing driving them to do this is the threat of lawsuits. If they donated the food and it turned out to be bad, they could be sued.

Its quite common for stores to send back damaged items. that's where your scratch n dent grocery stores get there product from. However...meat and produce simply get tossed out. many stores will actually gather those items and donate them to local food shelters.

Its not just Walmart, many other retail stores and restaurants do the same thing. Think about how much food restaurants throw out by the end of the night..its aweful..but a fact of life in America
