Difference between running a company and managing it?
My teacher says there is a difference. In fact he gave us a project to do. We are creating a business and there are several guidelines. Two of them being "How would you run the company?" and "How would you manage the company." We asked him and he said they are separate. So what's the difference, because to me they are the same?

I think that "Run" would imply the high flying philosophy of the company - the direction it is going in the future, etc.

The "Manage" part is the day-to-day cost analysis, keeping the nitty-gritty in line.

I was a restaurant manager at an Olive Garden and I did the day to day, keeping the place running. I did not, however, have anything to say about the direction of the menu, the stupid tv commercials, or the fact that they STILL have the Neverending Pasta Bowl.

You get paid to manage a company, and get pain to run one.

if you want to run the company ,you required specialist or expert who put their experience and skills for the company.by this your company progress, but to contol and guide the company require management skills.so at last i say specialist run the company and generalist manage the company.these two are lie on each other,if management fails then company could not run properly and if specialist fails then it is difficult to manage.

hmm, lets try. when you run the company, it means you're the big boss. you decide on how the company should grow, act, etc. when you manage the company, you assume a position in ensuring the decisions of the top management are carried out well and according to plan. hope this helps sweetie. =)

There is a difference when you run a company you own it as in you bought it a manager works for the owner or "runner" they tell the people what to do but the owner tells him what to do.

This sounds pesky, but I think to manage, is a more evolved term for running a company. I would associate the terms, with the size of the business and the researches made... Perhaps also with the executive decisions that one can take
