Disscusin question?
John Hines is a janitor for the First Mercantile Department Store. While walking to work, John finds an expensive watch lying on the curb. John gives the watch to his son, Bill. Two weeks later, Martin Avery, the true owner of the watch, discovers of that John found at the watch and demands it back from Bill. Discuss who is entitled to the watch and why.

Quiet simple...If Martin Avery can prove its his watch, there;s no questions asked...its his, without a Doubt...and one must return...no laws from Hell or any state will Deny this...But remember he must prove its his....serial number etc...

End of case!

Len
Tell Martin Avery to call O.J. Simpson for advice on how to get his watch back.

When the issue becomes an issue of value (money), you can throw ethics out the window. If you are an ethical person you will do the right thing to begin with. If you are not an ethical person then you deserve the jam you get yourself in.

Had Martin never discovered who found his watch, the watch would have been Bills to keep. But seeing how he know's who has it, I think Bill has a moral obligation to return it to it's rightful owner. The key here is that it was expensive. If I were Martin, and could afford an expensive watch, I would offer Bill a "reward" or some sort of compensation. If someone found my watch, I would want it back. Great question!~ Val

John Hines is not entitled to the watch. Ethically, it was wrong for him not to turn it the watch in to begin with.

I would be embarrassed if my father gave me a watch that he found.

John, can still get out of the situation unscathed if he returns the watch and explains that he found it outside by the curb, had a lapse in good-judgment and understands Mr. Avery's irritation.

If you found $25,000 in a bag laying on the side of the road would you keep the money?
