Do Corporate/office jobs do background checks/?
When applying for a corporate office job do they do background checks? Other than criminal, like a medical one?

The criminal checks are pretty common. A medical background check should only be done if there is something specific to the duties that would require it. For example if you worked in a chemical plant and you were to wear a respirator daily then a medical check to determine your ability to wear one might be reasonable. Just checking medical history would open doors to a ADA lawsuit.

it depends on the company, the job. generally, the more salary / higher level you are, the more checking will be done. your doctor won't generally release information, but they manage to get information from a health insurance claim database. usually , it is expensive to conduct complete background checks, with criminal, medical, credit etc. you have to be a pretty big fish to warrant this kind of expense.

in a high level search, you can expect anything . it is harder to let someone go/ costs more money to make a mistake and your risk of bring them in costs more/ they will be privy to more confidential information that could cost the company money. even after on board, it takes a while to earn complete trust if ever and get the nods needed. if you do ever find yourself or a family member sick, it is best to be confidential about it and not disclose it.

a company is not really interested in knowing medical reasons for lower level candiates/hires. the group insurance is going to have to take them regardless of risk, so the company isn't as concerned / careful as they would be in hiring a senior executive. the company DOES WANT the employee to utilize their insurance benefits and get healthy so they can put out the maximum / do their best to contribute to the bottom line/ profit.

I work for the one of the largest lawn care companies, and what we do for anyone we consider is once they pass their drug screen the company does a background check on the person. If they pass we bring them on, and if they dont we obviously cant hire them. So make sure you can pass a piss test.
