No, they do not have to. Many people believe that McDonald's makes its money by selling food. The truth is all the profit is in selling soda. On average they can buy a liter of soda for roughly $0.10. They then turn around and sell that liter for $2.50 or so. Their profit margin on soda is so great that watering down is unnecessary. Most people see the soda in the fountain being mixed with water, that makes you think that its being watered down. In reality it has to mix with water because the soda is in a concentrated amount. Think of it like chocolate, if you ate 80% real cocoa it would be bitter, but if you ate 40% cocoa with milk and vanilla then it would taste more like the milk chocolate that you are used to. |

Its not like they are buying bottles of coke and sticking water in it.
They use syrup mixed with water, so they may put less syrup in than some places I guess |

McDonalds soft drinks actually come in a box where it's only the syrup (which is A LOT sweeter and thicker than the normal soft drinks) it's hooked up to a machine which adds carbonated water to the syrup.
When your McDonalds soft drink starts tasting like nothing but soda water, that means the the syrup is actually running out or has run out and they need to go and change the syrups.
So yes McDonalds water down their soft drinks, however, they water it down because of how the soft drink is delivered to them from the Coca Cola company. |

no they don't but they put lots of small square ice-cubes that give you the impression that the drink is watered down.
Anyway - when you are eating all that unhealty food, what do you expect - to have cool, healthy, good tasting soft drinks? :) |

No the drinks themselves haven't been watered down but the amount of ice which they put in does water the drinks down! |

Like the previous person said - they just put loads of ice in to give you less product! My question back is - Are you one of these people that go to McDonalds and orders a fatty burger, chips with loads of salt, a fatty apple pie and then asks for a DIET Coke? |

Although it was not McDonalds, where I used to work, we were not allowed to touch the regulator that controlled the mix. Only a Coca Cola rep could. It was breech of contract for us, and we would be heavily fined.
Hovewer it definatly tastes different in some places. I guess they have to have some margin of error, and if the syrup is running low it does make it weaker. |

hell yeah!! Notice how it never REALLY tastes like the flavour they are selling. It's all syrup and water...NEVER the real deal! But then unless you get it in a can or bottle, I think most places use the old post-mix trickery! |
