Do clothing stores have two-way mirrors and a person watching behind it to prevent theft in the fitting rooms?
I have heard this from a few people now and its just so hard to believe!
Additional Details
Does anyone, a lawyer possibly, have any specific knowledge of this law. Can you post a link or do you know the article #?

knowssignlanguage
like the others said it is against the law. They can be sued for it and many more penatiles and arise also.

No, They are confusing the two way mirror theory with the small signs that say these dressing rooms are monitored. Two way mirrors would be a gross invasion of privacy and unlawful, especially if a male were watching a female etc. If you look at most fitting rooms the mirrors are not on walls that could be watched through. Monitoring means a clerk will be watching and checking in on you.

Thumper
No its illegal. That is why they give you a numbered tag when you go into a fitting room. I believe its the number of items you are trying on.

whiteparrot
No. It would be set up for a law suit.

ginarene71
Boy I sure hope not! I don't even want to see my self get undressed, much less let anyone else see. If they do, I don't want to know, I'd never try on clothes again.

Yes, it is true. Women watch the women's dressing rooms and men watch the men's. They catch shoplifters that way.

eonetiller
No its against the law...

Ah excellent myth!...I really need to make a list of myths like this...it's like hearing a good joke...but even more so. No there are no two way mirrors for this would be an invasion of something called privacy. Dang I really need to make a list of myths...

magdalina
they aren't allowed to do it. from what i understand if you put your finger right on the mirror and you see the reflection touching your finger then it's safe. if you don't feel comfy hold on to your receipt and ask what the return policy is.
