Do restaurant owners make a lot?
How lucrative is the position...?...50 points for the best answer because it will be much appreciated.

Depends a lot on the circumstances....where the place is located, what type of atmosphere and food is served, and what other types of services are offered besides food, such as valet parking, or music, etc. There is no direct answer to this....you could open a hot dog stand and call that a restaurant, in other words, or you could open a really fancy place, that requires suit and tie from its men customers......it all depends on what type of place you are thinking of opening. There is a big difference in what the owner would make, depending on these things mentioned above.

Some do, most don't.

well honestly, my family is in the restuarant business.
you do make a lot of money, somewhat. but its practically taking a risk. if the restuarant is good enough, you will make a great amount of money. if its not very lively with people coming in often, its going to put you in debt. just keep in mind a restuarant is a lot of money to handle. its a very huge risk.

Well, they make more than waiters! And no they do not make a lot.

hamsert
yes they do

I think there are a lot of factors that determine how much money restuarant owners make. It depends what type of restaurant it is, the location, quality, prices, and popularity.

ya. but i mean its sorda a hit or miss deal. I mean its altta hours cuz i own it. but if you can do good, thats a lotta money. but if you cant, u lose alot of money becuase it costs alot to make a restaureant, hire all the people, run all the utilities, etc.

Lots of restaurants go broke, so I guess those owners don't make much.

hehe it all depends how good you are at managing a business, in ideal conditions, with a great location, good food and a good crowd of people streaming in, you can most certainly make enought to live comfortably! you just have to be business smart, love the food industry (and food itself) and know what people will like! its just like anything, if your good at it, you'll make plenty, if your just sort of meh or half *** and don't put your heart into it, you're going to struggle.
hope this helps!

It depends largely on the restaurant, it's location, and your clientèle. Owning a successful (or lucrative rather) restaurant will require solid business and marketing plans and, more importantly, amazing people working in your kitchen and on your floor. If you don't have the experience of running a restaurant , hire someone who does, or consider getting some before jumping in head first.

I have a couple of friends who own restaurants, and some who have *owned* restaurants, and their range of income was anywhere from in the red to $300k+/year. One of the unsuccessful ones was in a great area with not so great a menu or people working for them (read: employees that steal) and the most successful one started off small and slow, in an up-and-coming area, and today they have a VERY loyal customer base and people complain that they aren't open more.

Good luck with your venture.

My Parents Just bought a restaurant so hopefully this helps.
It depends on the type of restaurant and how good the quality is. It also depends on what you think is "a lot"?
But if it is already operating it will make a good amount. But if it's closed it depends on how long? and why?

kimmy
its really hard to say

is the owner own a franchise?
if yes then if its already an established place (say mcdonalds for example) and its in a good location then they are probably going to make a good amount of money)

did they start it up on their own?
if yes then its going to take a while to to make back the money that they put into it. Starting your own business takes ALOT of money and A LOT of risk - but if you put your everything into it and start up like a "mom and pop shop" then youll probably end up doing great

No not until they get a big business going at the start for like 3 years they are in major debt

It depends on a lot of things.. The location? How many customers? How much do you charge for the food? What does your food cost to prepare? What does it cost to BUY the food? How much do you pay your employees? How much are the local licenses and taxes?

Any business is about risk.

You need to be able to make more than you spend, then you're a profitable business.
