I do not understand when stores like Wal-Mart and grocerie stores are open 24 hours the pharmacy closes. I also do not understand why pharmacies are closed during lunch, I understand they need a lunch break, but the rest of the store does it in breaks why cant the pharmacy? I just dont understand why if a store is open the WHOLE store should be open. I dont understand the deal with the deli either. |

The pharmacist must be on duty for prescriptions to be filled. A pharmacist makes much more money than most of the other people in the store so to keep costs down the store only has one working at a time. I would assume that the store would lose money having a pharmacist working at night.
I am sure closing the deli is also a money issue. |

First the answer about 24 hour store with pharmacies that close. The answer is simple.....the pharmacies will not fill enough prescriptions to pay a pharmacist to be there. Same reason in the deli and every other department that isn't open at night.
Now the lunch break question. When a pharmacist is not there, the pharmacy legally must close. If there is only one pharmacist the pharmacy closes when they leave. |

At some pharmacies, there is only one pharmacist per day. If the pharmacy doesn't close down, the pharmacist will not get a break. Pharmacists are the only health professionals who normally does not close down for lunch. |

pharmacists make $40+ an hour. its not very economical to leave it open for the couple of people who feel like getting their prescription at 3 am. probably same goes for the deli. plus its hard to find people that want to work those hours |

What that other person said. They need to have pharmacist there to fill prescriptions and it would be expensive to have two working at a time to cover lunches. That is the same reason it is closed at night. It wouldn't make sense to pay someone hundreds of dollars to hang around all night just to fill $20 worth of prescriptions. |

i've never experienced a closed pharmacy but i imagine it was quite aggravating.
what i have encountered has been a post office that is closed between noon and 2:00. that makes no sense to me. i live in the city but work in a small town and only have a 1/2 hour for lunch. thinking i was going to be able to hit the post office and grab lunch on the way back, didn't happen and i was quite pissed off. |

I have often wondered why the Walmart Pharmacy closes for lunch, just rotate every ones break so there is always someone on duty not that hard to figure out. I do however understand them not being open the entire time the store is. We would not exspect the banks in stores to keep the same hours. |
