longroad | Do you believe outsourcing good for America? |
Will it result in cheaper goods?? |

Yes and No. I think it's good for the big corporation to outsource their jobs because it will lower their overhead and expenses. It is also good for the smaller companies as well. It's easier for them to survive in the industry. However, it is bad for the American economy because it will be harder for American to get a decent job. I don't think that outsourcing will result in cheaper goods. Americans are getting greedy, they will overprice any goods if there's a high demand for them. |

No way! I'm having a difficult time getting PC support from outsourced help desks in India. They cannot speak English clearly and correctly and are taking our skilled jobs away. |

Outsourcing has not been good!! I was a good idea but implimented pourly. By allowing outsourcing to take place at the rate which it did. It didn't allow for retraining the labor pool fast enough to take on the newer high tech positions availabel. If it had to happen it should have taken a more timely appraoch to allow for retraining america's work force. Then you have the employees which are untrainable for a high tech position ie, not enough education, too old to train for a new job, lack of desire to retrain, ETC.
Also if you look at the no.s of kids not graduating high school (which is alarming) there will be fewer positions available to them as prospective emplyees. Most reasonably paying jobs today require a degree wheather or not the position really needs a degree.
This leaves large no.s of workers in a precarious position. These unemployable citizens with no useable skills could fill the void as unkilled construction workers and farm labor to at least try to support themselves but for the illegal immagrants are already filling those jobs. This happened after free trade was implemented which removed most, if not all tarrifs on import goods & a loss of revenue for the government. Much of the technology developed here in the US is now being sold back to us from foreign markets after our shipping the production overseas & those countries useing the same technologies in their products to sell back to us. It has turned into a vicious circle.

No, it isn't good for America. It will result in cheaper goods, but it will also continue to cause our economy to suffer. There is a great documentary called, "The High Price of Low Cost" about Walmart. |

No. We're losing jobs at a phenominal rate; more unemployment, the slower our economy. Sure, we may get a few cheaper luxuries, but we pay a higher price of nessessities such as food and shelter. Not to mention that when America pays other country's citizens those wages, America doesn't see a return on that money - the less taxes the government collects; that leads to worse roads, schools, less staffed fire/police forces, and the list goes on and frigging on. |

Yes. Typically the outsourced jobs are cheaper labor jobs or jobs requiring few specialized skills. Such jobs are not preferable. The problem happens when the outsourced jobs are not replaced by high paying, high productivity, high skill jobs that generate more revenue.
Unfortunately for America we seem to lack the hard work ethic and ingenuity of our father's and grandfather's generations so we're not replacing the oursourced jobs with better, higher paying ones. |

NO!
check the stats on the average pay of a manufacturing job versus a service job
check the pricing power you have when you make the product as opposed to the position when you are the buyer
check the cost of raw goods when your company can order massive amounts of material to satisfy its production demands as opposed to the lack of financial influence when your company only orders a minimal amount
The goods are definitely cheaper...for now
but our paychecks are growing significanly slower than the prices
only look at gasoline prices to see the influence OPEC
look at electronic to see the power of Korea, Japan, China
look at the IT outsourcing to see the power of India
My opinion
short term gain..long term pain.
outsourcing will turn the US into a second class world power in less than 50 years |

Yes, it results in some cheaper goods here and raises the incomes of people in poorer countries. I would like to take this idea one step further and outsource the entire US Federal government. We currently spend $2.8 trillion to run the government. If we could outsource to India, China, et al, for 10 cents on a dollar, then we could save $2.52 trillion. I submit we could then vote ourselves a $2 trillion tax cut annually, put $0.5 trillion toward the national debt (and have it paid off in 20 years!) and send the remaining $0.02 trillion to me, since I thought of it. |

If you've ever had your credit destiny in the hands of someone whom you are unable to communicate with then you know one of the frustrations associated with outsourcing.
Cheaper?
Not if you want service you can count on, Great customer service is what creates loyalty.
If you've been abandoned by an outsourced corporate giant that is out of touch with what you want, you'll go elsewhere to find the service you think you deserve. |
