Especially in Technology? I feel they don't understand a person's qualifications because they don't know the skills and knoweldge a person has, especially with regards to software and new software.

For example, I do technical writing as well. and the woman stated there is a difference between "real world" technical writing and "educational" tech writing. No there is not. I am taught by tec writers who work as tech writers and I have had internships, and they are the all the same. The woman disagreed. Give me a break. LOL! She has no clue. She doesn't even knbow what technical writer is I'm sure. |

thats why -- normally you have a technical manager along side with the HR person who is conducting your itnerview .... i do not know what kind of weird *** company you work for but thats what happens mostly in the engineering and computer science sector .... |

Only somebody who had YEARS of experience in the same field should be in that position.
But that person should not only have experience, but also BE OPEN MINDED...

Yes, it's true across the board. I think that the screening tests that employers use to find applicants actually screens OUT the most qualified individuals and companies are doing themselves and injustice by relying on them.
Hiring is a science, one that most employers have not found the answers for, only theories that do not work. |

The problem goes even deeper then the HR department. HR departments have no idea what so ever when it comes to IT, Technology, and Engineering. They totally rely upon the job description they are given from the hiring managers. Now the vast majority of the Hiring managers have no idea about the skills they need to perform certain tasks. So the end results ends up being a contract labor force for short term projects. There are certain skills sets and there is such a thing as talent in these fields, but unfortunately the industries has no way to measure these skills. I have even looked into the degree programs for Computer Science and I have known several people with BA’s in computer Science that have no idea how computers even work. I wish there was a solution to all of this, but unfortunately the skill sets it takes to be successful in these industries do not coincide with what it takes to be a manager. |
