a b | Do you know what AT&T is doing? |
They are conducting an audit of its health plan participants. They are requesting a ridiculous amount of information just to prove our eligibility to KEEP benefits that we have been eligible for (and received) since 1999. It is a complete invasion of our privacy. They are requesting our 2005 tax return, birth certificates of our children and our drivers licenses. They have us going through an 11-PAGE ELIGIBILITY CHECKLIST. Failure to comply with their request results in cancellation of our health benefits.
I want to notify the public of AT&T's practices. They need to receive the message loud and clear that they are overstepping their boundaries.
How can I do this? Additional Details I can understand an occasional audit, however, maybe I need to enlighten you on some of the documentation they are requesting. If you can not provide your tax return, they want your marriage certificate and proof of ownership (mortgage statement, credit card statement, car note, bank statement, etc.). If you can't provide a birth certificate of your child, they want a paternity test. To prove that your child is a student, they want a letter from the school and a current class schedule. I'm telling you - it's 11 pages of absolutely ridiculuous requests for information! |

Wow! that sucks. However, I am not entirely sure they are overstepping the boundaries. I know for a fact that Qwest does the same thing to people they have let go who are on their pension health plans. Since this an optional benefit provided by the employer, they can do pretty much what they like to ensure that insurance fraud is not being committed.
I guess you can contact the Better Business Bureau about it and make a formal complaint or contact the Secretary of State for your state. Good luck!! |

Unfortunately we live in a very dark age, not on the level of not having enough food, etc, but on other levels. There is going to be a lot of this happening in the coming months and years. AT&T will most likely be cutting the majority of benefits to it's employees, they just want to look like they care and figure out who needs them the most.
May I suggest writing a letter to the editor of some local newspapers? That would get the word out to a broder range of people. What you did here though, will have effects too. I now know of this and will share it with other people whom I think would care and they may do the same. Also, I was debating getting rid of AT$T as a phone company, now my mind is made up. Thanks |

They have the right to make sure they are not being cheated. They need to make sure those you have listed as dependents are truly dependents that quailfy. Not sure if your management or occupational, but if occupational, think about it. We get health coverage no charge. Would you rather not give them the information they request and pay for our benefits? (again assuming your occupational) |

They are trying to save you money and be able to continue providing you health care, you f-ing idiot.
Yeah, sorry, you do have to comply with an audit once in a while. |

Since the company is GIVING their employees benefits (health insurance is one of them) they can also change or revoke them.
Face the reality - they can do that.
If you don't like it, change the job. |
