guess what, by shopping at wal-mart you're helping the U.S. economy. it's wal-mart purchasing products from china, and the consumers here are buying from wal-mart. so as long as wal-mart is in business they will be supporting china's economy, as well as our's here in the United States from all the consumers shopping here.
as long as people are going to be willing to buy cheap products, wal-mart will stay in business. and there are a lot of people who's income is not enough to shop anywhere else for they're needs such as clothing and other household items.
so yes, it's true wal-mart is feeding the chinese economy, but they are also feeding ours. look around your home at things you've purchased recently and tell me everything you own was manufactured in the U.S... it's not going to be possible |

I LOVE Wal Mart. Why should I pay more a product made in the US when I can get the EXACT SAME in terms of quality and design made in China for a fraction of the price?
The US is a county of innovators. We should be out sourcing the mundane and low tech to China. Inventing and designing innovative products is our job, and is where the value is. Putting the pieces together should go to China to India.
Jordan - Spend some time learning about economics. You'll see that specialization creates value; doing something no one else can. China wants to make low tech commodities and assemble stuff? Let them!!! |

There's a more immediate -- but less immediately obvious -- negative effect that Wal-Mart has on our economy.
Wal-Mart destroys locally owned small businesses and has bankrupted thousands of business owners across the country. Why? Wal-Mart's business model is that they move into an area that is currently being served by a selection of "mom and pop" owned stores, from clothing to auto parts to appliances and hardware and you-name-it. But because Wal-Mart buys cheap crap in bulk, they can offer competing products for far less than the mom-and-pop stores can. So pretty soon the mom-and-pop stores go out of business -- but what that REALLY means is that the family that owns that business loses their income, their business, and maybe their homes and life savings.
In a year or two, the woman who used to own the beauty supply shop or the man who owned the auto parts store is now working as a Wal-Mart greeter, or stocking shelves, for half their old salary, and have had to sell their homes, or had them repossessed.
Wal-Mart is to the American dream what kudzu is to the American forest -- a voracious, unstoppable parasite that sucks the life out of any place it comes in contact with. It's not so much a business as it is a corporate virus, luring people with the promise of low prices and delivering instead financial ruin and the destruction of the soul of a community and the dreams of the people who live there. |

Do you not now that about any place you buy merfchandise, it is made in china. I order from catalogs, everything from household to clothing and i'd guess 3'4ths of it is marked Made in china-it isn't just WalMart! So guess we have to stop being a consumer society and go back to homesteading and growing our own food and sheep and make our own clothing,etc. |

I used to be a department manager at Wal-Mart and worked for one their distribution centers. I can tell you with great confidence that only about 30% comes from China. Taiwan, Pakistan and of course the US make up the other 70%. (With the US being about 50% of that.) I know this because I was in charge of ordering and inventory. |

About the only things not made over sea's are food, meds, and some cars (which the majority of the parts come from over sea's). It is sad and unfortunate that Americans can not speak louder then the politicians. Americana's now let the politicians call all the shots and we just sit back and let them. Not to mention how poorly they treat their own employees here in the United States, and when you purchase products from Wal-Mart you are supporting this behavior. Shopping at large chain stores also takes business away from the smaller, local guys, and while it might seem worth it now to save a few cents on your laundry detergent, when Wal-Mart becomes a monopoly after driving away all the local competition, they will guaranteed raise their prices much higher. Only then, nobody will be able to afford it because they will have all been put out of business by Wal-Mart and forced to work for them for miniumum wage. |

you are really stupid if you think innovations like walmart which it is not an innovation, helps both china and america. For one the wages are so low most americans can't afford to buy anything at walmart, pay the rent, insurance, dental, health problems arise all the time, cars break down, they can barely survive unless they live at moms. But moms and dad's are loosing jobs because of the cheap labor of china. buy people switching form local owned shops to walmart, it drowns there businesses, banks, savings, home owner ship, degrades every property asset they have. In Turn Millions loose money. It affects every person out there.
The problem now is if walmart, honda, and all those foreign china supporters shut down, Entire United States and about 100% of asian countries and 100% of stocks which in turn 100% of European companies stocks and people will Collapse! one by one! people will panic, pull out money from savings stocks, bonds, ira's, equity on homes, and everything would fall apart. We are so knee deep into bullshit, nothing is going to make a difference anymore. This is what "THEY" wanted. Hundreds of assholes who study economics in their sleep, knew where we were headed and those who made them study are the big daddy's of the Globe. So just sit back, shut up, get a gun and wait for them to knock. cause soon everything is going to fall apart. |
