Ultrastooge™ | Do you like to issue blanket statements? |
|
|

Way Out There
 |
No, because of the way I was raised, I have very stern and rigid opinions about blankets. My mother was practically a blanket Nazi (only cotton, certain colors and drawings...). So if I ever discuss this issue with anyone I am likely to get into physical violence. I might as well avoid the subject completely. |

Seldom affirm
Never deny
Always distinguish
That is why you should never issue blanket statements. |

As a PR professional, I wouldn't recommend it. You can have some prepared statements for situations, or you can have a set of statements that outlines the company's stance on a certain overall policies (like diversity, or compliance, or customer service, or reinforcing your mission statement). These statements can help others understand your company or your position in general, but should not be used in every situation or liberally like they're gold. Each situation calls for something different, and if you continually just issue blanket statements all the time, media will sniff you out and assume you're not being very open.
Hope this helped |

It's a relative term. In many cases there are general truths about general topics-- averages, if you will, but people who feel threatened by such truths will often call them "blanket statements" and insist they don't hold water by rattling off exceptions which run counter to that truth. Theses people are usually missing the point. One man's "blanket statement" is another one's general observation. |
