Do you realise that healthcare costs and pensions is the main thing making Car companies uncompetitive?

And the reason they have to pay for it is because their is no socialized medicine or retirement accounts like there are in Europe!
And the only way to have those is to have higher personal and corporate taxes but since conservatives won't discuss that our companies will continue having to pay for things that workers and the government should provide!
And I just read that US car company workers get paid LESS than non-union workers in Asian car companies working on US soil - so you can't blame it on the Unions!
It's corrupt management, and a dysfunctional government.

Excellent post....but the majority of the people do not understand and cannot think through or investigate on their own to find the truth. They think the republicans say it...so it must be true. The republicans rely on the stupidity of the American people. What we are seeing now is the Republican busting the unions in this country. If not for the unions, people would not enjoy the quality of life they have today.

Schools need to teach the history of the labor movement in this country. If not for the unions, the American companies would be treating the worker like Wal-Mart treats them in Asia. One reason why I do not patronize Wal-Mart.

As to these union busting republicans wanting concessions by the American workers...I say they need to lead by example. Their pay need to be cut. They have done a horrible job.

So perhaps we should have universal health care coverage. As for the pensions, people like my husband paid into them for years before there was anything like 401k's and they feel they're entitled to what was promised them.

the health insurance replace you for all the payement or part of the payement according the sickness.
-Th trouble that we have is that the Social security was only built for the Ilness of the workers at begining 1946 GÃ©nÃ©ral de Gaule and with the time extended to all poeple inclusing a gigolo who don't work and pay back anything including mileage to drive to Hospital cure thermal yes!
and we have to pay good money to afford including the poeple coming from foreign countries that we care too.
Sure in the States it would be easier to gather all the healthcare per State because in anycase you have to pay for your health
fe Gm workers must be cared and receive retirement in case of bankrumpty that to say if the governement give them back money it will be added on your taxes forms...or as deficit for the next gÃ©nÃ©ration....
You can first built an organisation which will gather the poeple for minimum health care and basic retirement I think to 1000Â§ per month
after 45 years at work calculated pro rata temporis according to monthes at work.
The poeple have the freedom to complete for more at a private insurance company or do what they want.
This systeme avoid trouble when we become old especially for the ones who spend all the money.....In fact it's money spared for them.
Do we have the right to care poeple counter their will?
It's not a socialist way to do the things they would build centers with all the health business and send the poeple according the place where they live for free.
The poeple have to pay a part from their tashes to limitate the expenses that to say in most part of cases for light diseases the care must be payed at 70% or nothing for a running nose!
In fact if the poeple are well cared early it empeach some trouble to appear fe on thoof or breath cancer!
In fact the global bill must be estimated and compare to the hidden one because if thete is a big health insurance with lots of customers the other companies will care their prices and the doc too.

BS/MBA/Ph.D./DBA/CPA/CMA/CIA with more than 30 years of experience.

WHEN THE $74 IS REFERRED TO, IT MUST BE SAID THAT IS THE TOTAL "COMPENSATION" PER HOUR !

It includes things like sick pay, vacation, pension, health & welfare,etc......... MORE CORRECTLY IT WOULD HAVE TO BE CALLED WAGES & RELATED COMPENSATION.

I'll beg to differ with you..I'm here in Germany..Big socialist system here..You can keep that Socialist C*&P to yourself..Because of that so called health care and retirement benefits they have here,they have to pay a 19% tax on everything..So what do you think our taxes are going to look like if socialism grabs hold here in America?
And I have dealt with their health care..It sucks..You HAVE to go to the doctor your told to go to.Sorry..I would rather go to MY doctor..
But I will agree..The Big 3 is corrupt..But so is the UAW..
And your wrong..The Asian owned car companies pay less an hour than the UAW workers get an hour..
