SadToday22 | Do you refuse to shop/go to WalMart? If so, why? |
I think Walmart is what is slowly destroying our economy. I do not like it, even if it does offer lower prices....but at what cost to our society? Plus many of the frequent shoppers at my local Walmart (I admit I have been there a few times...) are very low-class, rude and many times disgusting. What do you think about walmart? Don't you think is doing more harm than good to our economy? |

I stopped shopping there about 3 months ago. I hate going there because it's dirty, busy, and the customers are rude and ridiculous. I am in such a bad mood when I'm in there it's not worth it for me. YES their prices are unbeatable... but I shop at Meijer which is comparable. Plus everything Wal-mart stands for sucks. |

I love Walmart. I just wish they'd go back to their old ways of buying more American products. |

I don't shop at wal-mart. I agree with what you said about the class of people plus the store seems very crowded, noisy and dirty. I pay a few pennies more and go elsewhere. |

I refuse to shop at a place that makes X billion dollars a year and refuses to offer health benefits to their employees and give them a barely livable wage. |

after the I saw the movie about Walmart in Sociology I vowed never to go there again and that's that |

I refuse to shop at the Target near me for the same reasons everyone else gave. Their bathrooms are SOoOoO nasty, the employees (when you can find them) are not helpful and rude. I guess I am fortunate to have a Wal-Mart near me that is quite the opposite. Clean, not a lot of rude employees and a lot of them. When the lines get more than 3 people then they open up more registers - even at the least busy times of the day. When it's really busy all registers are open and they even have people helping bag groceries to speed up the lines. The customers have nothing to do with the store - that's the general public for you - they're everywhere! The store I shop at isn't in a particularly rich area either.
The person complaining about the hispanic foods and dvd's they sell - they do that based on who is shopping in that store. The stores that are in a certain ethnic area will cater to that race because that is who is buying the products. So, if you have a problem with that maybe you have other issues!
So....I don't shop at any store if I don't like the atmosphere, etc... in my case in my town - it's Target. I will still shop at that chain, but not the one here. |

I don't like them a lot. All of the things there are misplaced and the cashiers are often mean or extremely rude. More or less, it's a place where you can buy bad things cheaply. |

Walmart treats its employees like dirt with little benefits. The pay is evidentally quite horrible as are the managers.
I disagree with everything about Walmart. I like the "one-stop" shopping concept..but I think Walmart hinders communities.
Reference the "McDonaldization of society". It's a sociological term that refers to corporations like Walmart. |

Places like that are an annoyance more than anything. I don't like a place where you can't find a single person to help you when you want it.
I avoid going there as much as possible. |

I like Walmart and shop there often. (And I'm not low class)
Funny how some of the same people who stick their noses up at Walmart shoppers are the very ones who think manual and/or so-called unskilled/uneducated workers do not deserve living wages.
Walmart isn't destroying our economy. Trade agreements which aren't being enforced resulting in a mass exodus of manufacturing jobs from the U.S. is what is destroying our economy. |

wal-mart is responsible for closing small town business, I have seen this for years, a wal-mart gets built and half the small business owners leave town! |

I don't really know about the economic standing of wal mart, but you are correct about the people shopping there being RUDE and Disgusting.
Also, I noticed that Wal Mart hires dumb, rude people, and handicapped people. It's actually getting to where they will not hire you if you are over-qualified for the job! lol But, if you are physically or mentally handicapped, then you are a shoe-in for the jobs they have! Weird huh!
Do I go to wal mart? Yes, unfortunately, I have no other options but to go there, cause I am not close to a Target and I can't get what I need at the Dollar Store.
When I go to Wal Mart, I just try to make the best of it and keep to myself.

Also, I would like to add.. Wal Mart claims to be a "family friendly" place and they will not sell CD's without editing them (I HATE CENCORSHIP). They are "family friendly" but they sell BEER, and CIGARETTES. What's up with that? lol
Also, they are catering to Mexicans and have full racks of mexican cd's, dvd's food products, etc. And I hate that.
Sorry to rant, but hey, you asked. lol :-)

I will never go to Walmart...they treat employees like crap, they sell a lot of inferior merchandise made in foreign countries by child labor, and their bathrooms are nasty. |

I completely agree with you. I NEVER shop at Walmart. I usually go to Fred Meyer right by where I live. The Walmarts here are dirty and the food (especially the produce is gross, not fresh and has been usually sitting there for weeks). |

I absolutely refuse to ever shop at WalMart. I too believe that it destroys the local economy, not to mention my personal beliefs. Also, the feng shui is terrible... it makes me tense just walking in... *shudder* |

No, I only refuse to buy the cheap Chinese junk. The way Walmart does business is not their fault, it's the laws of the land that allow them to get away with it.
A few years back Walmart bought up a giant chain of supermarkets in Germany, they tanked and had to sell off all of their assets because Germany has laws in place that protect the consumers, the employees, and the general public well being. It's not the first American company to learn lessons how business is conducted in Europe the hard way.
I find your comment about the "low class" shoppers elitist, I've been to some very upscale stores where shoppers would get out in chaffered limousines and were just as rude, only in their case they added arrogance to their rudeness. |

Yes I hate to go to Wal-Mart. The employees are worthless. The customers are usually low-class. And Oh My God have you seen all the cameras they have in those stores? It's like 1984! The prices aren't on anything, the lines are too long and all of that's just the in-store experience! That is in addition to what it does to communities. It lowers the quality of life everywhere it opens a store. |

i dont really like it all that much, because like you said it is cheap and some people that like it bother me often, because of their filfthy and cheapness. But i think its good for people that need to save money like for the bad michigan economy right now. It also is better than nothing, and walmart is really trying to help those type of people. |

i love wal mart with the economy being so horrible it helps. you are right the people who shop there sometimes seem to be crazy. i live in a very nice area but when you walk into the wal mart it is like the twilight zone. my children and i have witnessed so many fights, some of the people are so rude.but considering all of that the prices are great. |

I agree but have little choice. In order to make ends meet I have to shop there since they have the lowest prices on the items I need. |

Walmart is a good place to shop. I agree with you on the class of people that shop there, but I just deal with it. The food might not be so good, but some of the clothes are kinda cute. Just go there for clothes and ignore the food. |

Read and be AWARE of what they do compared to their vision and mission statement. Research this: Sam's Club 6625+Sam Walton
Seven Wal Mart Principles - Samuel Moore Walton affectionately addressed as Mr. Sam
FIRST
Protect Human Dignity
If you want people in the stores to take care of the customers, you have to
make sure you are taking care of the people in the stores. - Sam Walton
WAL-MART WILL AGGRESSIVELY WORK to ensure that employees are never mistreated through practices such as illegal firings, "off-the-clock" wage violations,
intimidation, sexual harassment, violations of child labor laws, or
discrimination of any sort. And Wal-Mart will justly compensate each associate
with a family-sustaining wage that will enable the associate to raise a family
without having to rely on public assistance.
SECOND
Ensure Quality and Affordable Health Care Coverage
create a team spirit when the situation is so one-sided, when
management gets so much and workers get so little of the pie. - Sam Walton
WAL-MART WILL SET A NATIONAL EXAMPLE by ensuring that all employees salaried, hourly, full-time, and part-time have quality affordable health insurance that fully covers the employee and their children. To make this commitment to a sound financial investment for the company, Wal-Mart will actively promote full-time employment for its employees and discourage part-time hiring.
THIRD
Use Market Power to Improve Supplier Conditions and Wages
We still want to drive a hard bargain, but now we need to guard against abusing
our power. - Sam Walton
TO ENSURE THAT MERCHANDISE in its stores is produced under safe and humane
conditions, Wal-Mart will require and ensure that foreign and domestic suppliers
adhere to all internationally recognized labor standards and national laws.
Furthermore, Wal-Mart will require that suppliers justly compensate their own
employees to the same standard set forth in this agreement for Wal-Mart
employees.
FOUR
Enable & Embrace Self Sufficiency
Maybe the most important way in which we at Wal-Mart believe in giving
something back is through our commitment to using the power of this enormous
enterprise as a force for change.- Sam Walton
BY PAYING A FAMILY-SUSTAINING WAGE, Wal-Mart will ensure that federal, state,
and local taxpayers are not forced to spend billions of dollars on public
assistance for Wal-Mart employees. Wal-Mart itself will not seek taxpayer-funded
subsidies that locally-owned businesses do not receive. And Wal-Mart will not
pit local communities against each other when selecting sites for Wal-Mart
stores or other facilities.
FIVE
Buy Local First
For Wal-Mart to maintain its position in the hearts of our customers, we have
to study more ways we can give something back to our communities. - Sam Walton
TO DEMONSTRATE ITS COMMITMENT to the communities and countries it serves,
Wal-Mart will always "Buy Local First." Purchasing local agriculture and manufactured goods strengthens local economies and secures the long-term
survival of small family-owned farms and other enterprises. And by expanding the
focus of "Buy Local First" to each country in which it operates, Wal-Mart will
show a firm commitment to supporting the suppliers in those countries that host
its stores.
SIX
Keep It Clean
like to believe that as Wal-Mart continues to thrive and grow, it can come
to live up to what someone once called us: the Lighthouse of the Ozarks. - Sam
Walton
EVERY STEP IN WAL-MART’S SUPPLY CHAIN will demonstrate sound environmental stewardship. Wal-Mart will partner with local community and environmental leaders to avoid environmental damage and other disruptions caused by the site selection, construction, and operation of any Wal-Mart store or facility. This includes conserving wetlands, animal habitats, and green space, as well as minimizing traffic delays and air pollution. Wal-Mart will also strictly enforce this "Keep it Clean" policy with all of its suppliers, both foreign and
domestic.
SEVEN
Prove Worthy of the Public Trust
As long as we’re managing our company well, as long as we take care of our
people and our customers, keep our eyes on those fundamentals, we are going to
be successful. Of course, it takes an observing, discerning person to judge
those fundamentals for himself.- Sam Walton
AS THE WORLD’S LARGEST COMPANY and as a global institution in a position of
great responsibility and trust, Wal-Mart will be open and transparent in its
dealings with the public, news media, and its own employees. Wal-Mart will
actively work to demonstrate its dedication to the moral obligations described
herein, and is committed to documenting and publicizing consistent progress and
follow-through on all of its public proclamations and initiatives. |

yes! i fully agree
its dirty and scummy and i cant stand it!
i dont care if its cheaper because i would rather spend more money on a good product than less on a walmart crappy one that isnt at all satisfactory. |

I completely agree. Most people there are deadbeats and I hear they are very cruel to immmigrants that work in their stores. |

It may be one component!! But WaltMart can't be to blame.
I go to WaltMart because I have no other choice.
I have little money and I have to make it last! And WaltMart helps. There are more things that are affecting our economy, like giving young people retirement and having the tax payers pay for them, being in an expensive war, cogress voting themselves raises and so on.
If I could afford to go to small, independent stores to get my groceries or things I need I would, but it is just not possible! |

I work at Walmart! As many of our Associates, I have 2 degree's in Health Care! I am by no means stupid! I chose to work this job due to the fact that I wanted part time and customer communication! I am a people person! I personally have seen individuals of many diverse ethnic groups enter our store. I have seen those who appear to be extremely wealthy as well as those families who are struggling! I will tell you, never have I worked a job or gone far and above in my customer service skills to make my customers happy yet be treated with such disrespect! I continue to watch people pick up an item just to find it thrown somewhere on the other side of the store, or worse yet, the day before a visit from our DM, a group of people walk in and totally destroy an area 30 minutes before my shift ends, leaving me no time to recover. Their children running, jumping and screaming through the isles with no adult supervision. We are not babysitters people!!! This experience has updated my view on society! Its not the employee's, its the customers! People do things in walmart they would never think of doing in Macy's! Our walmart treats its employee's very well! We even get surprised with BBQ's, Parties, etc. Don't Dog all Walmarts,! |
