As a long term customer I think they are in serious trouble and will close or have to be rescued.
Reasons: 2 for the price of one on expensive food at a time when people are trying not to waste food
Disastrous stock levels, I have visited one shop in north London about 4 times for basic items and left each time empty handed.
Their cafe must make money though
If the UK does not reestablish manufacturing after Tony B_liar handed our manufacturing over to China WE in the UK are in real trouble |

I think they would be missed: yes. Marks & Spencer is known throughout the world as a bastion of the English High Street. Their disappearance would be a heartfelt loss. |

I don't think M&S has a serious problme.. a few years ago it was less profitcable, but still profitable., it doens't have a huge amount of debt/borrowings, its not highly geared.
the outlets that are at risk are those based on significnat amounts of borrowings, and or those that recently took on debt, often through buyouts.
thats why Woollies went downt he pan, not really profitable, lots of debt
Whittards because they had large amounts of debt.
would M&S be mossed, certainly, it would also be a shock to the retailing world, it is regarded rightly or wrongly as a key retailer. its could also act as a death knell for other retailers who try to source from the UK. it was M&S's reliance on UK suppliers that nearly brought it to its knees, whilst the likes of Asda & Tesco imported virtually every non food item from the far east.
at present the redundancies they are announcing are realtively modest... we'll see if they have to shrink further.
If you start to see the likes of Tesco and Asda making redundancies on a similar scale then you will knwo we are trully deep in the sticky smelly brown stuff |

That so-called "yummy yummy" (whatever THAT's supposed to mean) food and a few fancy pairs of underpants isn't going to keep a business afloat. They nearly went for a Burton a couple of years ago so they haven't got far to go now.
I'd just make sure I use all my M&S vouchers up quickly......! |

Unlike many 'High Street' names, M&S actually own most of their own stores .. others do not, and are paying rent ..
Commercial Rent is payable 3 months at a time, in advance, and the 'next' payment was due end of December .. the stores that failed to bring in the money at Christmas will be defaulting on their rental payments == this is what will cause them to go bust .. |

Apparently about 1000 jobs are at risk at the moment. |

No, there was an article in the paper saying how the top companies performed and M&S came middle of the road and so they're fine. |

I doubt M&S will close down.
They might make some redundancies but I wouldnt think they'll go into administration. As for being missed, I know my Grandad would. He thinks everythings better from M&S. He even refuses to eat our food from Tesco. WE CANT AFFORD TO SHOP AT M&S! ARGH. |
