Do you think Microsoft will still be the leading computer company 10 years from now or will they fade like IBM

There is too much movement into open source.
Their idea that the TV and PC will merge is right thinking, but they are jumping in late. There are many companies getting into that market, including Cisco.
Innovations such as touch screens and keyless keyboards, controllers taking the place of remotes will expand away from a visible opeating system. Microsoft will have a hold in the business market. But the home market is anyones market.

It's hard to tell, but they probably will be.

Open source will hit MS.

Microsoft have the leading edge now but their business practices like releasing xp operating systems with known flaws still unpatched and then charging you a yearly subscription to windows onecare to fix them will have people looking elsewhere for their operating systems, it is happening already with browsers like Firefox, Opera and Linux as soon as software manufacturers release more software that can run on the other operating systems windows will gradually fade in popularity and may even have to resort to operating good customer service, fixing bugs and properly testing their software before release I wouldn't hold my breath tho

Answer guy
IBM could take the lead again, if their whole computing on demand thing works out. Computing power delivered like a utility, microsoft doesnt believe in it.

Personally I think Apple could make a huge surge in the years to come. Already heading in the right direction with their IPOD products. I hear a lot of buzz that people are interested in purchasin Apple laptops and PC's when it is time to make their next purchase. Could get interesting.
