YES! there CHEAP I hate that store!

No, the economy is stimulated by the jobs Wal-Mart provides (abet, bad jobs, none the less, they are jobs) and this helps those who can't afford a good deal of things at the normal prices to purchase the necessities of life.
Also, why ask about Wal-Mart? Why not ask the same question of Sam's Club, Target, K-Mart and the thousands of other chain stores providing the same goods?

Lookin4Answers
I think that the original intent of Walmart has been changed so drastically that YES it is now ruining our economy.

Here are my reasons:

1) Over and over again, they came into small towns and communities and put all the small mom and pop stores out of business. America was built on the entrepenourship of people who invested their lives to building these small businesses. These small businesses not only provided goods and services to their town, they employed local people and were a basic part of American communities bringing a personal touch to employment. Now America is run by big corporations who don't care about employees, but care only about the profits they can make.

2) Walmart's demand for low cost goods has had negative effects in many area. One is illegal logging.

3) Although Walmart gives benefits to their full time employees, the amount each employee must pay for health care is too high to be covered by their low wages. In the movie "Wal-mart the high cost of low price" http://www.amazon.com/review/R2A8J5IQD39Y7U
the stunning facts about how Walmart encouraged its employees to take advantage of government health care under Medicaid.
Here is another example in Wisconsin of the "costs" the state has suffered:
http://walmartwatch.com/blog/archives/wal_mart_tops_the_list_of_employees_on_wisconsin_state_health_care_rolls/
Because Walmart needs to show billions of dollars in profits, they skimp on giving adequate health benefits and lead employees to use taxpayer funded programs. Our taxes, Walmart's profits.

4) Sending jobs overseas. Rather than buying American and keeping people here employed and because Walmart demands of its suppliers that they sell goods to Wal-Mart at such a low price, that they can only do so by outsourcing their work to low-wage factories overseas. This causes the exodus of millions of production jobs from the United States and the setting up of slave-labor concentration camps around the globe.

5) Walmart has been charged with forbidding its workers from unionizing (illegal!), bringing in workers illegally from abroad, and discriminating against women and minority. This may not be "ruining the economy" but it demonstrates the new America - driven by profits of large corporations.
http://www.workinglife.org/wiki/Business+Week:+How+Wal-Mart+Keeps+Unions+at+Bay+(Oct.+22,+2002)

--- one political note.... Hillary Clinton was on the board of directors at Walmart while their questionable practices of employment and discrimination were going on. She sat silence and failed to defend the common worker.

On the contrary, they are helping to propel it. Their ability to provide inexpensive goods of adequate quality enhances the lives of millions.
