Do you think outsourcing is a good idea?
They used to have me on the chopping block here for the past 2 months (I had to train my replacement). Rather large corporation in a heck of a lot of countries.
I had a good supervisor. She was actually looking for jobs in the corp for me, found me a job that cannot be outsourced. Fed sector.

I hate outsourcing. They need 3 Indians to do my old job. Language is an issue too often, but sometimes you find a couple speaking good english.

Outsourcing is a VERY sore subject in our home. We are totally against it. My hubby works for a company that is probably going to outsource everything they make eventually. Yep...works for a great "American" company...an icon and a symbol of the US....a company that used to brag about being made in the USA.

But, of course the hard working middle class will have no say in it at all. The middle class will be reduced to living in poverty while the big businessmen keep getting richer and richer. Ahhhh, there goes the American dream huh? What a crock...outsourcing sucks!

Outsourcing takes jobs away from qualified US workers and gives the jobs to people on foreign soil who work for a lower wage

Companies will do almost anything to improve their bottom line; even if it means taking a job away from a qualified/loyal employee

Most companies are in love with the idea, but as you point out, relocating has costs and often the workers they replace aren't as high quality as the ones here in the USA.
Companies will end up hurting themselves, but they won't find this out for years from now.

Are you serious?

The only person that Outsourcing is good for is the CEO and the board. (ie: the fat cats)

The American Worker gets screwed.
The consumer gets screwed.
The foreign worker gets screwed because it is like slavery for them.... 23 cents an hour....

Outsourcing sucks!

Next you're probably going to ask if shopping at Wal-Mart is a good idea.... LOL

The only ones who benefit from outsourcing is the company, who saves labor cost, and probably sells the goods for the same, or a higher price. American workers are the victims of such practices by employers.

OMG !!!! I despise companies that outsource. They are doing it for the company I work for; all of our IT people have been outsourced to India - try explaining computer problems to someone with the barest rudimentary command of English - not good!!!!! And when they've finished outsourcing all of the jobs, where are the rest of us supposed to find work? But as long as "big business" can get it done cheaper overseas, we Americans don't stand a chance. It needs to be against the law!!!

Outsourcing! Anyone who has had to speak to "TONY", "SAM" or "ANNE" with the strange East Asian accent whose no fault it is that they don't have a clue how American live their lives, hate "THAT WORD".

If Aol, Earthlink, the banks and credit card companies don't do something about this sooner or later, we'll all go crazy.

I have gotten to the point where I ask the person at the other end to identify their country and then I ask my question or state my complaint accordingly because we simply have no choice at the moment.

?
Just makes the rich get richer and the medium class become poor.

Have a close relative who travels to foreign countries on a regular basis (outsourced jobs). The main reason he has to travel is because of their screw ups. One country he works regularly, doesn't have enough storm drains in the cities. Employees who are uneducated mess up the technical equipment. Sanitation in some areas is terrible. I can go on and on. Because of the different problems they have at some of the overseas plants and the quality of product produced, a few companies do bring the jobs home but not enough to make a difference. Ask someone who works at Wal-Mart how many appliances are returned that don't work, right out of the box new. Way more than they want to admit.

Outsourcing can be a good thing for everyone involved if it's handled well. When I say that, I mean that the people who were doing the jobs are taken care of appropriately and don't automatically lose their jobs.

Offshoring, when the jobs are sent to third-world countries like India, is a panacea for poor management and it degrades customer service. The day is coming where corporate executives will realize it was a big mistake and those offshored jobs will come back, but at a significantly lower wage/salary.

The problem with off-shore outsourcing is that the financial model used rarely accurately estimates all of the residual and duplicate costs of doing work off-shore.

For example, my programmers in India need a project manager in India, and a project manager in the US, because the one in India can't talk to my customers - and the PM's are much more expensive than programmers.

In India, turnover is 400%, so it's most likely the staff starting the job is not the same staff ending the job.

However, there are other areas, such as help desk, that can save tremendous dollars by outsourcing, because they can hire people around the world to service customers.

Actual outsourcing often means just hiring an outside firm - school districts who "outsource" janitorial services see their costs go down, because now they're not paying union wages ($25 / hour) for someone to clean toilets ($10/hour job).
