Do you think "getting rid of experienced sales people" actually caused the doom for Circuit City? ?
CirCuit City fired many full time experienced sales workers in order to save money on benefits and hired unskilled new workers to replace them. Do you think it was a blunder which paved the way for their downfall?
Bad management, period, has caused the demise of Circuit City. It's been spriraling down for several years.

The firing of experienced sales people at Circuit City reminds me of the old joke-do you want to talk to someone in change or do you want to talk to someone who knows what's going on. Looks like the joke was on the upper management of Circuit City

Yes, because now the new clerks were no better than McDonalds cashiers. There has to be some knowledge on the product and the differences between several electronic brands.
I guess Circuit City was trying to compete with stores like Walmart, which are going to turn ever type of retail items into fast food like purchasing.

well best buy has the same type of employees and they are still in business. but i don't expect much from a minimum wage worker(no offense there are some good sales people in those stores). its part of the reason. but it's probably cause of the economy. circuit city is much older than best buy. so they had more debt and more overhead cause of the higher wages and benefits that were paid to their employees before. since best buy started they have been paying minimum wage/no benefits. best buy is losing money too but it can withstand it for now.

No, it still was a crappy store to work at.

Circuit City has always had poor sales people -- whether these are experienced or not.
I go to them and ask them about something and they can't give you an answer. I don't think I've met a good sales person in there -- either too lazy or not knowledgeable at all. So I would rather go to Best Buy and other computer store than go to them.
Hence, I wasn't really surprised they closed down. Your business is only as good as your people

I'm never impressed with any salesperson when I go into any electronics store ,and I've been in all of them. If I had the time to play analyst and look at the company from top to bottom I could almost guarantee that CC had bad management and a flawed business model. This answer just touches on all the different rhymes and reasons in corporate failure ,they'll right plenty of books and debate many case studies for a long time to come. Hope that helps
