Do you think the "BIG 3" deserve a bailout?
I actually work for GM in sales. This is what happens when our own american citizens buy foreign cars!

A little logic should tell us all three are not going to go under. When American Motors folded, did the other 3? So one goes down, the other 2 survive. Even if all 3 did go down, 1 or 2 others take their place. If their names are Honda, Toyota, or Walmart Motors, so be it.

You know, the reason for this whole mess is interest and little shits who don't pay back loans.
If both of those were eliminated (and as for the people, make them immediately denied from loan requests... like a "public bank note" that won't let them borrow money.) then we'd have NO more troubles ever.
Interest = money without work. inflation. stupidity.

And no, the major corps who were loaning money to stupid people who don't pay back deserve to be dropped.

I own a foreign car. I am very happy with my Acura TL. I have had it for 3 years and have not had a problem. I own it because the 2002 Chevy Monte POS I had, blew it's engine at 51,000 miles and I constantly had it in the shop for Trac control issues. Prior to that I had a 1998 Grand Prix GTP, who's tranny went at 26,000 and then an electrical fire which killed the car at just over 60. Amercan made cars are crap because the big 3 were greedy and put all their eggs in th SUV baskets because of the profit margin and didn't develope a well equipped small car.

Hell no, they should file bankruptcy and reorganize, break the unions and be competitive. Why should my tax dollars go to the greedy unions and under worked and overpaid autoworkers. Non union car companies in this country are doing just fine.

bored brunette
Nope. I've never owned anything but American made... and I've owned several cars in my time.

But if this bail-out goes through, the final American made vehicle I'll ever own is sitting in my garage right now.

Mark, GM has made several Strategic errors. It cost them about $70-$75 per hour to make a car. (Ford and Chrysler a little less) Honda-Toyota about $40-$45. Honda and Toyota also make cars that are more in touch with what people want. The big three do not match them in quality or resell value. (Trucks are the only differential)

Example..GM has had significant problems in desigh especially drive train (transmission and the such) but they still sell the cars and just have to fix them.

By giving into Union demands they have hamstrung themselves. GM can't file for bankruptcy either. Here's why...

1: Consumer confidence. They are already lagging in sales. No one will buy from a company that they think make an inferrior product and won't be around to back it up.
2: Under chapter 11 laws you need to be able to finance your day to day operations. That is what is killing them now. They would have to find a financial institution to lend them the money while they get their house in order. Who will do that? It's called debtor in possession.

I do think GM will survive but it will have to come out of Bankruptcy...

Scenario...they (GM) start shopping for a buyer...(TaTa would be good)
however TaTa will not tolerate the union or the cost structure. They go through Bankruptcy however it is a chapter 7 and a fedral Judge oversee's the sale and the union contracts are desolved (a Judge can do that) GM closes down probably 70% of it's plants...TaTa redesigns-retools-new company

Well honestly, they don't deserve it. They made bad choices. They should pay for it. But if they do, then everyone in the world will pay for it. (Economy will crash). So we have to give them a bailout. There is no other choice.

Yes. Wall Street is full of greedy rich a s s h o l e s who don't know how it is to live from paycheck to paycheck. It has nothing to do with Americans buying foreign cars, it's American corporations outsourcing American jobs overseas and getting tax breaks! I wish all these greedy politicians, executives would get all their money taken away from them! I bet they'd kill themselves in less than a week with this GWB enforced economy!! Hell yes the BIG 3 deserves a bailout!! Those greedy a s s wall street and bank loan sharks don't deserve any of the bailout money!!
