IWIU | Does Radio Shack hire jerks, or do they just train them to be that way? |
Everytime I go in Radio Shack, the minute I walk through the door, they want to help you, then you say, just looking, and it's only a few seconds later, they are bothering you again.
Radio Shack isn't the same as it used to be about 30 years ago, it has become nothing, I really think they are going to go out of business.

I worked at one for a vary short time, they tell you to do that, and if you don't you get yelled at. The pay was crap, I only stayed for a few weeks. |

they hire jerks and make them bigger jerks. but listen to this, Circuit City associates use to work on commission, they would come at you like it was a shark feeding frenzy,
no commission now, it is hard to find an associate to help you. I am not sure which way I like best, so now I go to Best Buy! |

I'd much prefer to have people bother me in offering to help than have to actually request permission to be helped. I think the biggest sign of bad service is when the workers really demonstrate that they could give a rats azz about your business. I don't know what the stores have in inventory, or what exactly they carry that fits my needs.... |

My ex worked for Radio Shack and he was already a jerk when he was hired. Trust me!
However, they do train the employees to bring in the sales, which can involve pestering customers and having to give your address so they can send you that annoying flyer. |

I feel the same way every time I walk into a Staples. The only difference is, at Staples if you do need something, they usually have no idea where to find it. I avoid that store as much as possible because I cannot stand the horrible employees. |

Radio Shack in 2006 sells exclusively parts and technologies that should be in the technological graveyard. But that in itself is handy if you need, say a co-axial to those little prongy things if you have a TV that has fake wood panelling.
Of course the rub is that piece will cost you $15 which is 10% of the price of a new reasonable tv.
Then they will sell you some other garbage that you dont need, or some annoying toy that you would probably love as a child but only annoys you now and goes off intermittenly.
Radio Shack really shouldve expanded when technology became so popular, selling affordable PCs and PC hardware and accessories. Say you need an ATX power supply but dont want to deal with Best Buy and all the motards buying all the "latest electronics" on their capitol one cards. Small quaint radio shack would be a nice option to pick up that part and maybe stop in to the beauty supply store next door and grab a nail file or something while youre at it.
So in essence, anyone who works for a dinosaur like RS, that sells and only wants to sell old relics is probably a luddite dinosaur themselves, or remembers when Radio Shack was cutting the edges of technology with their Tandy computers or what have you.
