You're asking if, for instance, you're off work due to stress and you get fired? No they cannot fire you. Thing to do to cover your *** is to file a disability claim and NObody can fire you while on *approved* leave, nobody is above the law in that circumstance. Approved as in a note from the dr or therapist/shrink.

No law requires anyone to cover mental disorders. Mental disorders are not short term any way. But if someone truly has a mental disorder they can get SSI.
This I know because my youngest daughter was diagnosed at 14 with mental disorders and is incurable. She has been getting SSI since she was 17 and will continue to get it for the rest of her life. But she cannot hold down a job and can't even raise her children.
