The people are the ones that invented ebay really - but ebay has gotten very greedy and many sellers feel betrayed. There is really no big competition out there for ebay (Amazon might be the biggest?)...

Yes! But also as someone that worked in customer service once, customers are getting worse too. Some think that because you're in the service industry you're their personal *****. I had someone yell at me for the lack of vegan choices on the menu when I worked in a steak house.

Don't you hate it when you call a business and you talk to 50 computerized people before you finally reach a person?

Overall I think customer service has drastically improved in the last 20 years but there's still a lot of progress to be made. It used to be rare that stores would accept returns, let alone give refunds. Now most merchants have liberal policies.
Wherever there is limited or no competition among merchants (government services, phone, cable, etc.) service tends to suffer. The best remedy is to open those areas to free competition.

At work I always give & receive excellent customer service...it really depends on what industry you're talking about...I work in the promotional product industry.
I've recently had to call Apple, AeroGarden, & Samsung for customer service & it's been great.
However, if you're talking about customer service at a fast food place or a retail place, the customer service has never been good there (unless you're at Chick-fil-A! They're always good there).
