i dont know if that is the answer but something definately needs to be done they say they have to price it so high but even after the required amount is spent on research exxon continues to report record profits there needs to be some type of price ceiling in place or something
and c.b. the united states doesnt pay the least when you factor the other costs per gallon we pay such as this war in iraq we are actually one of the highest paying countries

I do not think it would help much. While the oil companies have some control over oil prices, a big part of it is the amount oil producing companies choose to make available. If the companies were split up this would increase the amount of control that oil producing countries have.

I believe that is already in effect to a point. I think that whatever can be done should be considered. The cheap stuff is around $3 a gallon by me and I drive a large Mercedes SUV. (Requires the 93 octane) Not the smartest choice when it comes to gas conservation. (I got it before all of this happened.) I hope it changes soon!

The United states pays the least amount of money per gallon than any other country. European nations pay like 7 dollars a gallon. We need to start thinking about how to not use oil instead of whining that the price is so high.

It is funny because most of the oil companies in the US now used to be under one company called Standard Oil controlled by John D. Rocketfeller. They would abuse their monopoly power in the oil industry like 2 century ago. After that, the US Supreme Court had to force them to break into 34 different companies competing with each other. I don't think it's necessary for them to be broken up again..
