John | Does everyone hate home depot? |
i work there, and i might be the only person people like, im a cashier, and if something rings up wrong, i just give them it for the right price, if the product has no UPC and its like under 3 dollars, i through it in their bag, their sale comes to 10.01, and have a 20 dollar bill, i give them the penny....i usually bring in a quarter a day for that cuz thats less then how many times it happens. ppl like me, i like them, i understand that every1 else who works at my store just absolutely hates their job, but im more laid back, so it just makes me angry to see that i'm the only one tryin to improve customer service. Additional Details hahaha u know what i meant, but actually i was 10 dollas over the other day..... |

Of all the Big Box retailers, I believe that Home Depot has done the best job of retaining the small town hardware store feel while offering a much wider selection. I sure performance varies from store to store, but I can say that the three in my area have the following characteristics:
- Folks who are very knowledgeable and helpful. They explain how things work and even provide a demonstration for you if needed.
- Low turnover in the departments. Perhaps the people like the work they do. Perhaps they are compensated well. Whatever it is, a familiar face helps out a lot in tough situations.
- Selection - Something the small guys don't have.
- Easy return policy - No ???'s asked
- Great customer service - for the most part. Some experiences have left me mad, but hey, we're human.
Some things (wood and installation services) I will just purchase elsewhere. I can understand how some contractors are mad that Home Depot has set up competition for its "best clients" (contractors) by offering installation on its products, but this is America and Big Corps do this type of thing.
Me, I love Home Depot and want to get me one of those aprons. |

I absolutely love Home Depot. The people are really friendly, everytime I go in one, I am always asked by at least two Associates if I need any help. One of the flooring people even went to my house and helped me measure the square footage in my kitchen and didn't even charge me. I bought a weed eater there and I didn't realize it did not come with a cord, so I went back the next day and am looking through the extension cords and the manager happened to be near me and asked what I was looking for and so I told him about buying the weed eater with no cord and he ended up giving me a free extension cord. I think its all about your attitude, if you go into a store thinking you are going to get crappy service then you probably will but if you give people a chance and smile a little you won't be disappointed. |

It's like that everywhere you work. What makes a person like their job is them, not the job. You make it what it is. You know? When you are satified with yourself, you will be satisfyed with your job. Whether you are saving lives, digging ditches, or taking peoples' money. I don't think it has anything to do with Home Depot, just the normal hastles or deciding what you want to do in life...... |

Unfortunately, we do not have a Home Depot where I live.
You sound like an asset to the company. If I were the manager I would give you a raise. Keep up the good work. Maybe you can be role model for the other employees. Actually, I think it would be fun to work in a building supply store explaining to customers which plumbing fittings to buy for their plumbing job. |

There are several Home Depot stores in my area and I find that each one is different. Some have better managers, some are better managed, some are easier to find things in. In general Home Depot gets on my nerves because its so huge, its so noisy, and I have a hard time finding what I want and nobody seems to know where things are. |

They don't hate people like you, they hate your store's policies, like helping illegals find work, and broadcasting commercials instore in spanish. |

I would not hate it so much if you could ever get waited on, at our local Home Depot they have put in self service registers which is great because, I have noticed the cashiers are too busy gossiping with each other or reading magazines. |
